You'll gain a lot of refinement with cats and you won't lose any relevant horsepower with a good set.

V8s do not sound better with cats. A good tune will minimalize any of that sweet fuel smell coming from the exhaust.

The "clapping" sound you are referring to is known as rasp. Your exhaust sounds raspy, try a resonated x pipe. Magnaflow makes the best one, it finally got rid of the rasp in mine. TSP headers, no cats, magnaflow resonated xpipe, magnaflow mufflers. I might get a short rasp between gears if its really cold out, but its rare.

Clap is a good description of the new 5.0 Mustang that passed by when I was at a stop light. He got on it and it was awful. That coyote motor sounded like cardboard clipped to a bicycle wheel. Ford gets a big fail award for the factory exhaust tone.

For a minute there, I thought he was referring to the popping in your exhaust on deceleration. To that end, if that were the case, fuel starvation causes that so, a tune to remove that would relieve the popping. If it's something else entirely, I don't know what to tell you.

Pretty sure he's talking about the straight piped truck sound.

Hmm. Maybe it's been too long since I've heard a truck like that but, I've heard some combinations on Camaros that made me raise an eyebrow. I guess if have to hear it.

My 2010 2SS "claps" too. It has long tube headers, no cats and an otherwise factory exhaust. It sounds good except the clapping.

I'm going to suggest different mufflers than the 10 series, high flow cats and or a resonated x pipe.

I actually have Magnaflow bullets. Sounds really great and gets way too much attention from fans. Now I know what a celebrity feels like being asked for autographs all day.
