I've had 6 mustangs 4 SRT'S I could buy anything and I have the ZL fun factor my ZL is wayyy more fun than any 600HP Chally, Jeep or Charger SRT period. This is a real drivers car not only does it perform the best its a freekin beast and I beat the snot out of it trust me. With no tuning for at least a year or more on the challenger it's not something I'm even concidering at this point. We are still waiting on full tuning for the 2012+ SRT stuff the full tuning capabilities are not even their yet from 2012 model years.

You said in about a year you will be getting a new car. Why aren't you considering waiting to see what the next gen ZL1 is all about? You will have to wait longer, but good things come to those who wait.

Styling. Handling. Power. In that order. Or is it Styling. Power. Handling. I went with the ZL1 due to handling capabilities. I liked it's styling and I'm happy with the power. Ugh, now I'm confused.

Im not gonna get rid of my 2013 Silverado, but in about a year, Im getting another car. Wife is down with me getting whatever I want (yea, she's a keeper).

My question is which of the three should I get?

2012-14 ZL1- great handling car, fast, looks great, but slower in the 1/4 mile

2013-14 GT500- handles ok, fast, puts down more power, very fast 1/4 mile, BUT, lol, I cant stand Ford, this would be the only ford I would ever get

2015 Hellcat- lots o' power, excellent 1/4 mile, I think it looks the best, and by far sounds the best

What im looking for is a fast stock car that I don't have to modify... I just don't want to regret whatever it is that I buy. For example, the ZL1 runs slower 1/4 mile times and puts down lesser power, I could buy a SS and modify it to get to 12.4-6 1/4 mile easy.

This will be my weekend driver, so I don't care about refinement or "better for a daily driver". Right now im ranking the cars I want as:

1- Hellcat
2- ZL1
3- GT500

If anyone has experience in any of the other cars (I know the hellcat isn't out yet, but a srt8 maybe), I would love to hear about it... Thanks for any advice...
This is how I would logic it out...

You are not a Ford man, so do not compromise against your core values as it will only be a fleeting whim that you will soon regret.

I think you are a Chev man, so bump item number two to the top of your list.

The Hellcat is interesting...and I don't want to use the word "novelty"...but if its only on the list because of the excessive / over the top horsepower, then that is not reason enough. Hellcat is the engine, but I assume you want the Hellcat Challenger? HP is not the reason to buy a vehicle in my opinion.

The challenger has some nice options, particularly with adjusting the HP from the touch screen....but I would test drive it and see how it handles around corners...how it feels when you are sitting in it...see if you like the way it growls. Then test the ZL1 ....and I am sure your decision will be made, right there, hands down. You can't get a more exquisite car for that price.

i looked at shelby's and ZL1's….i l really liked the Zl1…handles great and like mentioned above buy the 750hp kit. my wife also liked the ZL1 better so that helped the decision making process…lol... I'm glad i got it tho…love the car. i did buy the kit, just haven't had time to install it yet, can't wait till i can.

By a ZL1, get a 750 package done and you will be the happiest man alive....no regrets.
Yep....

If you're looking at 40k used in a year or so then your only real choice is the zl1 around 2012 model and I think at that price it's an incredible value

Not to mention the sponsors on here have alot of knowledge on the zl1. That can help make great power upgrades and the do 's and dont's. Plus it makes it world difference when modded.

Recently went to street car takeover houston couple weeks ago. Had lots and lots of compliments and alot of racing.

Here's a pic of my black car now. Since you like black op..

And of course I'm a zl1 fan obviously lol so my vote goes the z. Plus the Recaro seats are wonderfully comfortable

Don't be silly and discount a Ford based on prejudice. It's a great product.
I'd rank them:

ZL1
GT500
Hellcat

Until the Hellcat is out, driven by guys like us and proven itself, I don't understand how it can be in a legitimate comparison. I drove a GT 500 and a ZL1. In my opinion, the ZL1 was my favorite by a fair margin. If it had been the other way around, I'd be on a Ford Forum bashing Camaros.
I'm not ranking a car based on some pictures I've seen and articles I've read.

I know my SS isn't a ZL1, but it is Eaton blown...Here's my opinion:
I have the motor trend where they did a side by side comparison between the Hellcat and ZL1. The ZL1 kept up with the Hellcat until 50MPH, they only put a 275 tire on the back of the hellcat stock. The ZL1 ran a 12.2 in the 1/4, and the Hellcat ran an 11.8. Not a big enough difference IMO to justify spending the extra money just for horsepower. On the skidpad, the ZL1 took a big ol' dump on the Hellcat. That is a big factor to me, that is the "fun to drive" aspect I look for in a car, not just the straight line acceleration. GM did an excellent job on the ZL1, and the only reason I don't have one is that I wanted a Vert, and didn't have the budget for a ZL1 Vert.
