I have no allegiance to any auto company, so that didn't factor into my decision at all. I used to like the Challenger's look until the Gen5 Camaro came out which totally blew it away for me. Whenever I'm behind a Challenger I hate how narrow the tires are for the amount of steel on that car. They are way undersized. I also don't like the front grill. The grill is too narrow top to bottom and the bumper is too big so it reminds me of sling blade or muttley the 70's cartoon dog with the big underbite. Silly cosmetic things, but it's always those little things that make a difference for me.

The answer to this is pretty simple, really - chassis flex.

The curb weight of a 392 Challenger is 4160 lbs. Cutting the roof off it would remove so much chassis rigidity that it would take a good 500 lbs. of additional bracing to keep the body from flexing like a slinky.

So yeah, it would look really awesome (and does, in fact, as the picture shows) but with no engine modification the lb/hp ratio wouldn't be much better than a V6 Camaro.

Parenthetically, the single most disappointing drive I ever took was a 2005 (or '06, I don't remember) Mustang 'vert, "Shelby" edition. At the time the car was about 3 years old, had 19,000 miles on it and was for sale at a local Nissan dealer for all of $22k. But every time I nailed the throttle in any of the lower three gears the chassis would wind up like a sleeping cat and literally head for the trees. I was horrified.

It made me think that cancelling my order on one of the first '05 GT verts was the smartest thing I ever did.

Must not have been the same homeless dude that I saw in downtown Lincoln, NE. I pulled up to a light, and he was sitting there, shirtless and toothless, and gave me a big grin and 2 thumbs DOWN.

My thought was, hey, it's better than what you got...

RM,

I think when Mustang owners come to a Camaro site they are here to pick a fight that they may not win. I owned a 2012 5.0 Mustang. Sold it and bought a SS but thats not to say the Mustang isnt a great car, it is but I think on any given day a SS 6 spd manual can take a 5.0 Mustang. Ive owned both. I know, but there is alot more to it than that. The Camaro is built better in my opinion the interior is nicer and the Camaro "style" is much better than the Mustang.....

Thank God for the choices.

I believe we are living ,buying and driving , in the second 'Golden Age' of muscle cars.
Most of us don't realize this , and it won't last forever.
Get 'em while their hot boys.

I agree. I think that with upcoming CAFE and other government regulations, we will not be seeing muscle cars like this too much longer. Buy them while you can!
