V6 Longtube headers vs Shorties
Hey all,
Just a noob question here, what is the difference between LT headers and shorties ? Besides hp gain, would the sound differ between the both ? And would you recommend BBK LT headers and DT shorties ? Thanks |

Yes, sound is way different. Shorties give you a deeper sound while long tubes give a louder raspier sound. I would go with shorties if your looking for sound and go with longtubes for performance.
Long tubes will probably rasp on your car unless you couple it with a catback or axle back that can tame them. You could also look into a magnaflow resonated x pipe to tame rasp and reduce any drone u may get |

Both are good. long tubes produce more power but you'll need a tune. costly mod. i've heard shorties don't produce much extra power

I don't think there would much of a sound difference in what you have now, and shorties. Also, the power gain would be so small as to not notice a difference. If you have emmison testing in your area, don't go with anything.
On the long tubes, by going with hi flow cats, you will get rasp. You could go with the "off road pipes" which would save a lot of money over hi cats. A tune is not mandatory, you will get a CEL (check engine light) due to the placement of the cats further down stream in the exhaust from where they had been from the factory. I wouldn't mess with putting shorties on for the little gain. Many members on here have put a magnaflow in lieu of an X pipe to loose the rasp with LTs. |

Shorties worth maybe 5 hp on top but are a little noticable in the low to mid range where they make some torque, about 8-10 LB FT. Sound is just a little louder, deeper and a little more rumble sound

Prolly, but I think you can do shorty's and keep your stock cats and be ok.

I think that it has to have some sort of stamp or something to be compliant with the regulations. One of the shorties doesn't comply. I think it is JBL, however, verify first, of course.

Doug Thorley's are compliant. And the sound difference is very noticeable.
