Approaching 100K miles....question on maintenance so it goes another 100K!
So I'm 1000 miles away from hitting 100,000 miles on my 2015 V6 Camaro (auto). Over the last 5000-8000 miles I've been fairly diligent about handling some maintenance tasks. Here's what I've done:
Replaced all 4 struts Replaced tires Alignment Replaced pads Replaced diff fluid (every 15,000 miles) Replaced oil (every 10,000 or so miles) (free lifetime oil changes at my dealer) Replaced engine air filter (every 30,000 miles) Replaced cabin air filter (every 30,000 miles) and that's pretty much it. I've had 1 issue with the car in the last 3 years 100k miles and that was a evap solenoid or something-or-other that I ended up buying from Autozone and replacing myself. Cost was $35 and a lifetime warranty. My question is that I want this car to go another 75,000-100,000 miles so I can give the car to my son and he can drive it for another 100,000 miles. He just turned 14. Here's what I think I need: Transmission fluid change / transmission service ($219) Brake fluid change (brakes are feeling spongy) ($???) Tune Up ($349) My main question is with this tune up that the dealer says I should consider. Aside from the free oil changes and the alignment, I've done all of the work on this car myself. I'd prefer not to do the trans fluid change or the brake fluid change mainly because of time and the cost to do it offsets what I feel my time is worth. But this tune up business seems like a lot of nonsense to me. What all is involved in the $349 charge that I can't do myself. Change spark plugs? I can do that....what else? Also, anything else you think I should consider servicing for peace of mind for the next however long? Thanks! Zak |

Too late for a transmission fluid change if you didn't do one around 50k is what I've read. I would visually inspect brake fluid to see if it's dirty. If not, then maybe you just need to bleed the brakes. Not sure about the tune up but I would clean the top end (seafoam). Definitely new spark plugs if you haven't already done so.

Eh, depends on how thorough you want to be. I'm a believer in transmission fluid changes but yeah, if you haven't done one before now it's kind of a coin flip. It's not a lifetime fluid even though they like to say it is. Spark plugs. Fuel system cleaner? (I prefer seafoam, 1 can in gas) Brake fluid might help, I swap mine frequently because I have a manual. And maybe your ignition coils, I swapped mine a little while ago (I'm at 102k) and it cleaned up my idle a ton. Otherwise it sounds like you're on top of it.

Skip the trans flush if you haven't done one previously. Tune up is nothing more than plugs & wires. It's not as involved as it used to be, Pretty basic these days.

I'm at 100k and I'm going to do Transmission fluid(second time) I did upper intake walnut blasting of the Intake valves, coolant flush (2nd time), brake fluid (2nd time), differential fluid (3rd or 4th time) spark plugs (2nd time). I am considering doing my timing chains I believe that was what captaincog was referring too.

It's never "too late" for a trans fluid change. It gets contaminated and it's lubricating characteristics breakdown with age and temperature cycles. Change it. Drop the trans pan and change the filter too.
Change the plug wires while you're at it. If it idles rough afterward, maybe the coils. Pull the throttle body and clean it. Clean the MAF.

For Pete sake, quit telling the guy with a v6 to change his plug wires.

Tune-up with new plugs and wires, check for leaks, and change oil diligently, and you should get another 100k miles out of it.

It's odd that you are replacing the diff oil unnecessarily every 15,000 miles, but have not yet replaced the coolant or serviced the automatic transmission. It's time for those items and stop wasting money on the diff. It's not a limited slip diff and the service interval is 100,000 miles if not more.
