Front end noise

Like many of you here my car doesn't get out much with this winter weather. But I've been lucky enough to get the car out on average once every other week. The last 2 or 3 times when I go to pull it out of the garage, I get a clunk from the front end and also when turning the wheels while in reverse. Once i get it out and go, it goes away? Anyone else have this experience?

I don't hear a clunk while backing, but when I first take off and the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, I hear a clunk. Only that one time, but every time. If I manually put the car in 1st gear a second time and let it shift up, I don't hear the clunk, ONLY that first time after a start. I have an auto, and I have heard this from day one. Has not gotten worse or anything, just something you notice.

It may be the cold tires slipping as you crank the wheel in reverse.

Last time out I got a pretty good bang because the brakes had locked up a bit due to moisture. The brakes let go, but it made a pretty good banging sound to break them free. From looking at the disc they were pretty rusty/yellowy. Cleaned right off as soon as I applied them. Always seems to get this yellowish color on them when they sit for a while. Maybe I need a dehumidifier in the garage to keep it much dryer.

Its not just you .... Misery loves company so I'm glad others are hearing this clunk that I hear in my 2012 ZL1 too.

According to my service advisor and the Dealer Service manager after bringing it in for this twice I was told its Normal and the front coils are hitting. I looked for any ware indications and have not noticed anything alarming yet.

I hear this every time I back out of my driveway and turn sharply counter clockwise while the passenger wheel goes down the curb. It also happens on the other side. It happens when it's Warm, Hot or Cold.

It's not only a clunk sound but the whole front seems to slide.

Lug nuts are torqued to spec
Tire pressure was observed at 27 - 32 lbs
Tire wear is not abnormal
Does not happen on my Wife's 2010 2SS / RS L99
Did not happen on my 2010 2SS LS3 even with the Stage3 PFADT suspension

If you find out what the noise is let us know, my car also does it backing out of the driveway first time after sitting, it does not do it if I drive it for a while come home and then take the car back out again same day. The brake sticking kind of makes sense.

I got that sound as well when I was backing up from my garage on a cold night (29F)
Steering position was almost locked on the left side
The car was not moved for 10 days

Have you been to the dealership to see if they can duplicate this concern for you? Please let us know any updates you may have.

I started hearing a clunk coming from the front driver's side area yesterday when I slowly angled into my driveway; I house is on top of a hill, so I suspect the noise is result of the suspension and the cold weather we've been having in Indiana. It has only happened twice so far (yesterday and today), but I might schedule an appointment next week just to confirm that there isn't a problem.

I noticed this yesterday when I backed out of a parking spot with the steering wheel cranked all the way to the left (ccw). It was the first and only time. Temp was 42*. The tire seemed to slide a touch then all was fine. I thought I had run over something but there was nothing. I drove 25 miles today backed in and out of parking spots. I could not get it to repeat.

It seems all of you with the noise are in cold weather. I'm guessing it's most likely cold bushings, maybe the sway bar bushings?

I haven't noticed the noise yet, but aren't some bushings in the ZL1 different than the SS?
