Leave the top down?

I’m new to convertibles, and have seen several posts with people saying they leave the top down for days/weeks/months at a time. Another user said you should never leave your vehicle unattended outdoors with the top down. What opinions do you all have on this?

First, welcome to C5. There is a tremendous amount of useful information here for new members.

Here is one of many threads on the subject. It pretty well captures the pros and cons. You can search further if you need more.

The top on mine goes down in April and stays down until October. I've done this every year since I bought it new. It is still a 9.5/10.

I left my top down in the garage a few weeks ago while I was away on a business trip. When I returned for the weekend and washed her, I noticed there was dust in every nook and cranny of the interior. It took about two hours to clean the interior. Now I leave the top up when she sits idle.

I left my top down for probably 8 weeks straight without putting it up this summer. It is a weekend and nice weather only vehicle and is garage kept. I use a spray detailers and spray wax so it doesn't even have to go up to be washed. With all the 5th bow and motor horror stories I want to raise and lower the roof as little as possible. My vert is a 2011 with just 8,800 miles on it, it looks showroom new and I want to keep it that way.

I live in Vegas where we have perfect convertible weather all year round. Top is down every chance I get. I do put it up if it's parked. BUT I have run into a convenience store or Starbux less than 5 minutes and left top down. I am VERY careful and double and triple check that my glove box is always locked. That would be an epic fail...top down...glove box unlocked...anyone could help themselves to your personal info

If I park mine for any period of time in a public parking lot I put the top up. If it's just for a short period of time I leave the top down but put the windows up and the wind deflector up. Someone could still get in of course but it a little harder.

Weather permitting it's down. If it gets stolen thanks for the payment relief. Lol

you forgot salt down on the roads :( I had every intention of taking mine out yesterday morning but the 1-2" we got hampered this.

Seen a guy about a week ago cruising down 465 with his top down when it was 50-60 out. Brave man.
