I just bought a Camaro about a week ago.

The other day I was at a stop light with clear road in front of me and about 130 miles on the odometer. This mustang creeps up on my left and pulls even. He revs the stangs exhaust (aftermarket). I rev mine (stock). He motions for me to roll down my window. I oblige. Younger dude.

Stang driver: "Hey man, you want to race."

Me: "No".

Stang driver: "You afraid I'll blow your car off the road?" My mind drifts back to Kid Rock and Joe Dirt.

Me: "That must be it."

Stang driver: "When this light turns green, we'll get on it ok?"

Me: "No thanks, nice car there though."

Stang driver: "Why'd you buy that car if you ain't gonna race it?"

Me: "I think it looks cool".

Stang driver: "Let's go on green!" Revving his aftermarket exhaust rattling my ear drums.

Me: "No thanks".

Light goes green.

He floors it. Smoke everywhere from the tires, the exhaust screaming, the tires searching for traction.

Then, a sound. What is that sound, I've heard it before? My mind searches to place it as he roars out from the green light.

Ah, yes, it's THAT sound. I guess he didn't notice the county police officer that was sitting on his back bumper. I have to wait for him to pull across the road in front of me to the right. I look over at the officer who has a GIANT grin on his face and gives me a thumbs up as I drive by at 25MPH.

I must say back in the day I was the kid in the mustang (only I had a 99 Z28 of course) I was playing with a kid from work, I did a little burn out as we pulled away from the light. I did NOT tear out of there, just spun them a little and got up to the speed limit. When I got pulled over about 100 yds later, he told me to quit jacking around. I said Okey Dokey. (no ticket)

Smart decision

I always tell them "how about Friday night at the track." That usually shuts them up. Most the guys that race on the street don't race at the track. Why? Because they know they'll get the axx handed to them at the track.
