If you do a search, there have been numerous threads about this. I think you will find that most people changed their oil earlier than later. I have a 2LT, changed my oil at 1,400 miles and again at 2,900 miles. I'll probably change it every 5,000 from now on, no matter what the oil life monitor says.

I'd be cautious about changing the oil TOO early - most modern engines have a special lubricant applied at the factory during assembly which they advise to keep in the engine for a certain period of time. Double check your owners manual, as it may say not to do your first oil change untill the DIC advises so. And then after that change it whenever you want to.

Its a good idea to change the oil after the initial engine break-in. Most people seem to be doing it no later than the first 1500 miles.

Check my thread on Blackstone Labs in the Maintenance/Break in section.

Changed at 980 and roughly 3100 and still had high levels of copper, silicon and aluminum after the second oil change. Although normal, my belief is that by getting most of it out as fast as you can, the better the entire rotating assembly will wear in the future.

Will driving the car with increased amounts of silicon, copper and aluminum damage the engine if you go 8-10k on the original oil from factory? I would rather not find out. My OLI stated I had 8500 miles left on my factory fill when I changed it at 984 miles.

I am using Pennzoil Platinum and Mobil1 fiilters. PP has a better additive package (zinc/phosphates/calcium/magnesium) than Mobil1.

Changed mine at 1450 miles. Mobil 1 only.

Will do again this weekend at 3700 miles. I am just that particular about my car.

I have a Grand Prix GTP with 120,000 on it and chage it every 3,000 miles, runs like new.

I changed the oil on my LS3 at 2977. Installed new Pure One oil filter and fresh Valvoline full Synthetic. Baby runs great. From now on I will probably change every 5-7k. I don't daily drive it so I should be good with this plan.
