Ticking noise?

I have a 2SS RS L99 and I've had it since October of 2009. Ever since we got it, it has had a ticking noise. It only does it sometimes, so it's hard to pinpoint it. I have already taken to Chevrolet and they cannot find anything wrong. They suggested it might be the oil filter or a lifter tick. I don't think it's a lifter, I'm going to try changing the oil again to see if that works. Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of oil filter I should be using? Also, we bought a Hypertech programmer and when we programmed it, the noise got worse and it actually seemed to make the care slower on the low end. Idk, I'm a little frustrated with this car right now. Help!

if not the normal injector noise and something in the engine, you definitely want to get it documented at the dealer before you start messing the tune or the dealer can tell you the after-market tune caused the problem. I would not even begin to think about changing the stock tune if there were existing issues with any parts of the powertrain.

It most likely "Piston Slap" this has been a problem with th LS motors. My 8.1L sounds like a deisel when it's cold. When I called GM about it they said that it is normal. If that's true I wish I would have got a screwed up one. After enough complaining they gave me a 100,000 mile warranty on the motor. They may have been right though. It now has 128k on the clock, and runs fine. I just have to live with that clicking noise. Check out this website it explains it more indeapth. http://www.pistonslap.com/

Whatever you do don't grab the sparkplug wires with wet hands standing in water.

Direct Injection is one cause of the ticking. Another member posted he had a sticker hitting a belt which was definately ticking,

It's valve chatter. Every new Camaro I have heard has it. PQ's is real loud.
