must read for all of you worried about voiding your warranty

I just got back from my speed shop (discussing my 427 build) and they had a LS3 6M there with <3000 miles (BONE STOCK).. with a hole in the block. #1 rod let loose. This car was as stock as they come and it wsa there because GM VOIDED the warranty. CLAIMED ABUSE. Trust me I know abuse. I abuse the crap out of mine but this car had seen no abuse. GM is tightening their belt loops. The shop even went to the GM dealership with the parts to show them that there was no abuse.. I thought this was a shame and everyone should know.

What's the whole story here? Maybe the person was beating the sh** out of it. It would be interesting to hear what they consider abuse? Was the owner red lining it all the time?didn't follow proper "break in"? Id like to hear both sides. It seams like everytime we hear a horror story about warrantys being voided we find out later there was a reason and it was legitmate.

I looked the car over very well. Tires and all and it did not even look like he had done any burnouts with it. And personally you should be able to beat the SH** out of it and it be fine. I have been beating the sh** out of my sporttrac for 3 yrs now. WOT all the time and its not throwing pistons through the block. I am sure it was just a bad motor build because I beat mine pretty hard with 600HP and it runs fine. If I blow my block I will not complain but no amount of abuse to a stock motor with 3000 miles should cause a busted bottom end.

Whats the definition of beating the car up and how hard is to hard when driving a muscle car. I don't understand our cars should not get warranty voided for doing what it was meant to do. You won't void the warranty on a truck because it broke down while towing the amount of weight it was meant to tow. So if the average sports car gets taken to a track monthly bone stock and he drags it why void the warranty if its supposed to be capable of say 12.9 qts like our cars. If the car breaks while attempting to do that then it doesn't work as advertised. Thats why you buy a sports car because its supposed to perform better than your average car right? I can understand beating the car up and destroying it but, what about taking care of it and sometimes taking it to the track to see what you and your car is made of.

I would have to respectfully disagree. Buying a sportscar doesn't necessarily mean you are buying Reliability. Performance does not always equate to Reliability. Actually, it is the opposite for the most part. All it mainly means is you are getting more performance at the sure expense of reliability. You disagree? Well, I can bet you anything any sub-$20k car from Japan and most sub-$20k from anywhere else will outlast most if not all "Performance" cars. and YES, I have driven these cheapos hard and like a Timex watch, they just keep on going. There is price to pay in performance. And No, most street cars, performance cars or not, ARE NOT designed for the drag strip or race track. I wouldn't classify a $30k+ Camaro as one that is built for strip/track in mind such as the Z06, ZR1, GTR, 911, M3, etal.

Maggie 2300 will go on soon and I opted to buy the Magnuson optional powertrain warranty to help cover the cost IF something happens.
