Ohio Speeding
The title of this thread was supposed to be "Ohio Speeding Statistics" but I accidentally hit the enter key. Anyways,I came across these two articles regarding speeding tickets given by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. I thought you all might find it interesting what the breakdown of speeding tickets (by sex and age) were in Ohio.
Tipping Point For Speeders: 9 mph Over Limit http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/...?cxtype=fb_mlt (For those who don't like to read links, I pulled out the key info): "At 9 mph over the limit, troopers issued only 3,864 speeding tickets during the three-year period, the analysis found. But at 10 mph over, they wrote more than 36,000. And don’t even think about 15 over. Almost 147,000 drivers were ticketed for speeding by 15 mph, accounting for 16 percent of all speeding tickets issued." "Being young doesn’t help your ticket chances either. The most common age to get a ticket is 20, the analysis found. Twenty-year-olds got almost 66,000 tickets during the three years, and were followed closely by 19-, 21-, 22-, and 23-year-olds. Together, drivers in that age group got almost one in five of all speeding tickets issued." Troopers Say Holiday Speeders Risk Ticket http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/...et-795029.html "Last July 4 weekend, Ohio Highway Patrol troopers wrote 19,331 citations, including 13,512 speeding tickets and almost 4,000 safety belt violations, a Dayton Daily News analysis of Ohio Highway Patrol data found." "Men are more likely to get tickets than women, even though there are 250,000 more licensed female drivers in Ohio, the data shows." "During last year’s July 4 weekend, men got nearly 12,600 tickets while women received just over 6,700. That tracks with the newspaper’s analysis of close to 1.7 million citations from 2007 through 2009 that found men getting more than 1.1 million or 68 percent of all tickets." I guess what I found the most intersting from these two articles is there are 250,000 more licensed females than males in the State of Ohio.

Reason men get more tickets is easy to see, if with the women being licensed the men usually is the one driving when both are together. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why men get the bulk. Either we are driving when solo, or we are the driver when with the family so its more chances we will get a ticket over females that have a male counterpart.

I know in my late teens, early twenties, I was in a hurry everywhere. Toss that fact in with me being a male, and you can see why those statistics point the way they do. Also, the number of tickets go up as the speed does. What does that say? To me, at 9mph and under, with a good attitude, no ticket, 10-14mph over will probably get you a ticket without perfect attitude and or a great excuse. 15mph over, forget it. You are getting the ticket. How do I know? That's my mentality when writing tickets.

Actually it has more to do with auto insurance companies. Moving violation = higher rates, higher rates = more money in the pockets of the insurance company. Its why many autoinsurance companies buy the equipment needed to detect moving violations for the police.
