SAE HP/Torque Curves for L99 & LS3

I just stumbled across the 2010 SAE certified horsepower and torque curves for the L99 and LS3 at media.gm.com. The L99 puts out more torque than the LS3 between 2000 and 4000 rpm. I imagine the VVT on the L99 has a lot to do with that. Combine that with the A6's lower first few gears and no wonder the L99 is rated quicker 0-60. Here are the links to the graphs:

http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...amSS_SAE_n.pdf

http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...amSS_SAE_n.pdf

Anyway, I have enjoyed my LS2 A4 GTO, but am looking forward to driving an L99 SS someday or year (my dealer says I might be able to test drive one by the end of the year- yeah, okay, at least I have my GTO for now).

l99 is going to own the ls3 after mods start coming out for it.

But with same mod that you pull on the L99, the LS3 will always be faster.

Thats funny my L99 is MUCH slower then my 05 GTO! Took it to the dealer and they said everything is runing fine, but at the track it is atleast 3 10's slower if not more.

But were the weather conditions the same? Right now in the heat and humidity times are going to be pretty slow. Were looking at a +2500 DA conditions at the track.

My 06 A4 GTO ran 13.3 @ 105 mph on a perfect 68 degree, low humidity day during the winter. In hot humid air, it could only manage high 13s @ 102 mph.

When the weather cools down and the humidity drops, I'm very confident I can equal or beat my best stock time in my GTO.

I still say Torque managment is your problem. I hate GM right now for Torque managment in every V8 Automatic.
Now we gotta deal with hmmmmmmm void my warranty and get a tune? or keep my Warranty and stay slow as hell?

How so? It may make more POWER- but won't necessarily be faster...

not after a tune my friend. The only thing holding the l99 back is the AFM, the less aggressive cam, and torque managment. Once you put in a new cam and then tune the L99 will be king. you could put the same cam and a similar tune in the LS3 and it won't have as good as a response.

the LS9 is the LS3 engine with VVT, i mean common that alone should sum it up.

I have been a fan of VVT ever since my 2005 CTS with an earlier 255 hp version of the 3.6 L V6 in the LT. That engine had tons of bottom end torque but still ran strong up to 6600 RPM.

The 0-60 times for my 05 A4 GTO and the L99 are both quoted at 4.6, but the Camaro is actually about 200 lbs heavier than the GTO. I also cannot help thinking the 20" wheels on the SS hurt it off the line some.

Getting a tune is so damn tempting, but these cars are so new, who knows if we'll need to use our warranty for issues that haven't come up yet.

Decisions, decisions...how long is our warranty? 5 years?

The LS3 will most likely make more HP (mod vs mod), but a higher stall converter on the automatic will easy equal the playing field.

Bolts ons + converter + sticky tires = very fast track times for the L99's.
