Here's my list, granted this is for new people with little experience and don't want to spend a lot. And more of a 13 tips not a 13 weird tips.

1) Don't work in the heat

2) Use 2 separate buckets for rinsing and washing

3) Newspaper for glass

4) Don't let bugs stay on car finish, wipe them off gently

5) Use microfibers from big box stores like Costco or Sam's Club (Much better than the ones found at Autozone, Pep Boys, etc....)

6) Use distilled water found at any grocery store instead of tap water which has harsh mineral deposits

7) 0000 steel wool to clean glass spots

8) Use a clean garden sprayer to rinse down your car with a pre-mixed solution of water and car shampoo

9) If you must go to an automatic car wash, use touchless ones that don't touch your car's paint.

10) Vinegar and water for hard to remove water spots on windows

11)Q-Tips are great for hard to reach places, between panels, and other locations.

12) Work your way from top to bottom on the car

13) Don't use the same wash media on your wheels and tires and go back to your paint! Do them either first or last.
