Vararam Cleaning
Does anyone have a DIY or just some steps on how to clean the vararam filter? I've never had an oiled intake and don't want to over oil it. Also, I have the cleaning kit but it doesn't really come with very detailed instructions so I was hoping some of you guys could give me some tips on what to do? How much oil should I apply?

My first cleaning is coming up soon and I am terrified I'm going to mess something up too. I have found this on green filters website. It seems almost too easy . . . good luck.

I think they recommend it every oil change so every 4k miles? I think you can get away with a little more if you periodically take the filter out and hit it against something to get some of the loose dirt out but I dont really know how much you can push it.

oh shoot! haha I'm behind
I've noticed sand looking particles around the edge but just brush that off. Looks like I have a job tomorrow.

I just did mine using the instructions on the green filter box. heres what I did:
Take out filter and wipe down all the plastic (just dust) Tap it to get out some dead bugs and blow it out with an air compressor Spray it with that oil on both sides generously then wait 20 mins Rinse out with warm water clean side to dirty side Wait for this to air dry (i set it next to a fan on low speed because im impatient) Give it two or three squirts of oil per side and pop it back in Good to go! Vararam and Green Filter recommended cleaning EVERY OTHER oil change for what it's worth.

You need way more oil than 2/3 pet side. One spray per every 1/2 sq inches if I recall.

One spray for every two square inches of filter area - says so right on the cleaning kit box. That would be 30+ total sprays since the filter is about 4x16 - maybe larger. I'm not 100% sure of the exact dimensions for the filter as my car is at the dealer right now. I'm pretty certain it is to be sprayed on the "dirty-side" only.
