Ebrake Cable
I'm looking at getting new wider wheels for my 2010 SS. The various threads on ebrake rubbing on wheels showed me a couple solutions being used. The first being simply removing the last cable guide (white) from its mounting clip and tying the cable off the to upper arm closest to it. The second being sliding the cable through the guides to allow more clearance between the wheel and the ebrake cable and using some tubing and hose clamp on the inboard side of the white guide to hold it.
A couple of questions: 1. I got under the car today, removed the cable guide (white) from the mounting clip and positioned it by hand against the arm like I would tie it off. It looks like the ebrake cable will rub on the arm's stationary mounting bracket edge as the wheel moves up and down with the suspension. Has anyone seen wear on the cable at that location? 2. For the method of simply pulling the ebrake cable through the guide and clamping it for more clearance, this basically defeats the purpose of the guide allowing the cable to slide and position itself in the guides. This shouldn't be a problem as long as enough slack is remaining when the wheel moves with the suspension. If not enough slack remaining has anyone had the ebrake actuate say on a rough road or damaged it by it being tensioned too much? I'm just trying to save myself some aggravation later on if the cable gets damaged. Thanks in advance. |
