How can I fix my mistake?
Yesterday, I took the time to take off a plastic sticker relating to an NFL team, it had become raggedy looking. I didn't have fishing line, so I used dental floss to gently loosen the little sticky pad on the back of the plastic piece that was adhered to the car (next to the rear license plate.) Some of the sticky padding was left behind, so in my infinite wisdom, I used Goof Off on the sticky pad by gently rubbing the pad with a cotton ball. After about two or three gentle rubs, I noticed my cotton ball had a small amount of black on it (my car is black), and I immediately ceased using it. Now, I have a slight cloudy area on the paint where I used the Goof Off. I know it was the wrong thing to use now, but it said it removed adhesives. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get rid of the cloudy area? (it's about the size of a quarter) I tried using some black spray wax I have and buffed it, but it didn't work. I can't see it from standing back a bit from the car, but up close, I notice it. Still didn't get the adhesive off. I'll go buy some Goo Be Gone or WD40. I'm a bonehead...LOL.

I use lighter fluid and some trustworthy fabric to rub the surface with.

Compound to clean up some hazing? Boy...
If there is any adhesive left on it, then use some 3M adhesive remover or Goo Gone to remove. Then wipe down with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and polish out with a finishing polish using either a DA or by hand.

I used Goo Gone to remove my rear bowtie and it didn't pick up any paint at all. Although I was being pretty conservative with the stuff. This past summer I ran over gum in a lot and then hit the highway. It basically slapped little thin lines of gum all over the driver's side rear 1/4 panel. Busted out the goo gone and it got it off again without picking up paint. I wouldn't leave it sitting on my car but so far goo gone seems to be paint friendly.

Took the rear emblem off just now to replace with a black one,
process was floss to remove emblem, then picked off what I could with finger nail, rubbed goo gone on it (didn't take any paint off, the black was from the black 3m adhesive, rubbed it for about 10 minutes, used some polish, then some dish soap when I was done and reapplied the new black SS logo.

Lighter fluid.
Don't put stickers on your car. It's not an old truck.

1) No more stickers...LOL.
2) I'll get Goo Gone...I used Goof Off which I guess is much stronger. 3) So, should I use the compound or not? |

No, you don't need compound. That's like taking a chainsaw into the garden.

Will not hurt a thing. Use lighter fluid to remove residue on glass, metal, painted surfaces, etc. It's what people have used for decades.
