Video of my half mile runs in the ZL1
Went out to the Omega Motorsport Gila Bend half mile runs this past weekend. I didn't have the other cars ready but the ZL1 was since I haven't done a damn thing to it yet. Anyways it was a good excuse to beat on it a bit and just have fun running whatever was next to me and see what a 100% stock ZL1 could do out at that event. Ran a BMW and a Panamera with unknown mods, I should have found them in the pits and asked what they had done afterwards. Was hitting anywhere from 153 to 157 depending on if we got on it right away at the beginning or left from the cones.

The 'Sandwich' shot had me on the floor, especially because you were up against a StingRay? Assuming it was not the Z06? Either way that was memorable!

I was surprised it was pretty good, got it from the QT gas station on the way out there since it was a last minute idea.

Man I want to run one of those this year. I think I can run 165 or more with over 700 rwhp. Great runs and looks like you had lots of fun.

This thread is 7 months old, so I apologize for re-opening.
I’m doing a 1/2 mile shootout in two weeks and had some questions. How did you achieve the best speed? Launch control or no? I’m planning on running in competitive mode (sport) with the suspension in tour. Any advice or should that be best? Tires-I still have my stock GY’s with 6k miles on them. They seem to have plenty of tread left. I also have a brand new set of Michelin PS4’s in my garage. What do you guys recommend running? Lastly, do I go with drag pressures (32/26) or high speed (44) pressures? TIA |

Depending on how the event is set up will determine how you begin. Some events have a set of cones where you can get up to a set speed (I.e. 40 mph) and hit it at the cones. The events I’ve ran at used to do it this way, but they ended up changing things in an attempt to keep things relatively even when comparing trap speeds to other events around the country. So now you’re staged at the cones, and everyone has to put the power down from a dig in order to get a 1/2 mile of acceleration. If you’re event is set up like the latter, I’d probably just use the launch control feature to keep it consistent. Sport Comp mode would also work, but then you’re on your own as far as trying to keep the car hooked up. I use Sport Comp mode at the drag strip, but that’s with drag radials. Oh.. and if they’ll allow you to, you might want to do a quick burnout to warm the tires and clean the crap off of them. I found that to help a lot in my ~700 whp Corvette. |
