Had a chance to work on the new coil mounts. I'll finish them up in the morning, one is close to what they'll end up being, very simple. Tomorrow the valve cover spacers will be here so I can take a few measurements and finish up the valve covers and coil mounts so I would think Saturday morning I will be firing it up.

Don't it figure. The valve cover spacers I ordered won't work, spent most of the day making my own. They were somewhat challenging as I wanted to follow the shape of the oem cover as closely as possible this way when I weld them to the covers they will look like oem hi rise valve covers. When all is done it will look pretty much like my original set-up but with clearance for a somewhat aggressive cam and the shaft mount rollers. Tomorrow I will weld them up and powdercoat them but I won't be finishing it up as planned because I still need to do something about hardware.

Thanks guys. Did a little more machine work to the spacers for needed clearance for the rockers, tacked 'em up and test fitted them, then on to welding. Got the outside welded, as soon as they cool I'll run a bead on the inside then clean them up a little. While playing with them I solved the hardware dilemma, I decided to make studded stand-offs to thread into the head, they will be as tall as the oem stand-offs on the original bolts plus the .750 for the added cover height, this way there will be no need to mess with longer bolts and spacers. The stand-offs will have a shoulder so the covers line up the exact same every time, important because cover to rocker clearances are tight |

Finished welding the covers from the inside and started to smoothen them out in prep for powdercoating. Tomorrow I will weld on the coil mount tabs and powdercoat them, I will also work on the mounting studs. Any day now it will be ready to fire up.

Had a chance to finish up the valve covers and coil mounts as well as the mounting hardware. Here's what I came up with, for the valve cover mounting bolts I made some standoffs, they thread into the head where the bolts normally go, the ends are the same size as the oem spacers so now instead of messing with the bolts the valve cover drops on the standoffs and are fastened with allen heads. Doing it this way ensures the valve covers go on the same way every time keeping clearances in check and allows quick remove/install,they use the oem grommets and gaskets. I also finished the coil mounting tabs for the valve covers and welded them in place, then powdercoated them in textured black. Tomorrow I will throw it together and if there are no unforeseen snags I should be able to fire it up.

Finished up the valve covers and coil mounts. Here are a few pictures during the install, very easy set up to work with.
With that said I did have a chance to fire it up and take it for a short test ride. It needs a few tweaks with the tune mostly to smoothen out the idle a little but all in all it feels good. Hope to play with it a little and get it all straightened out in the next couple of days. |

Thanks, they came out good, I think at some point I may make a set of billet valve covers or do another set like these but position the coils a little different but I won't know for sure until I do a few other things like fuel rails and lines. For now I am looking to get the tune dialed in and then I will play with some more things under hood.

Just thought I'd share a quick video at idle, still needs some tuning but it's close.
