Is P0449 cover by emissions warranty?

Anyone know for sure if the "Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit" is covered by the emissions warranty?

My engine light came on the day (perhaps the day after, I swear) I had my car for 3 years (12,000 miles). I was hoping it was the gas cap but the light never went off. I just got a code reader and the code is P0449.

I emailed the dealer but want to know if someone here knows the answer for sure.

Could be a couple of problems, but regardless of what it is, should be covered, don't know why not....

Powertrain - Auxiliary Emission Controls - ISO/SAE ControlledDescriptionEVAP Vent Solenoid Control Circuit Conditions
CauseEngine speed over 600 rpm, system voltage from 6-18v, then the PCM detected that the Actual and Commanded state of the Vent Control solenoid control circuit did not match for over 5 seconds

Emission system stuff is supposed to be good for 100,000mi.

But I've seen stuff like this and other "purge valves" not covered beyond 3 yrs.

Use your reader to clear it and perhaps disconnect the battery as well to reset the "control circuit", then see if it returns.

If it does, I'd take it to the dealer and play dumb. If he tries to charge, be ready with a littany of federal emission longevity requirements (they're outlined in your owner's manual) and hope for the best.

The service manager's response was

"the car is out off bumper to bumper but that is no problem we will take care of it for you its possible it needs a vent valve"

So, its unclear if its supposed to be covered under the emission warranty or not. In any case if its just the vent valve they are gonna cover it.

Car goes in on Friday. I'll let you know what happens.

The only emission components covered beyond 3/36 is the PCM, ABS module, fuel control module, and catalytic converters. That's it. Cam actuators for the L99 have 7/70 warranty, for California-equipped emission systems.

The service manager called and said they need to replace the EVAP canister. He needs to order it and I'll need to leave the car the for a full day. Total cost to me will be $0

I still don't know for sure if its under emissions warranty or if it because the light went on the last day of my 3yrs. I'll try to find out after its all done.

Isn't that just a can of charcoal?

I think you can ruin one if you "top off the tank" when you fill up with gas.
the gas sloshes into the canister and saturates the charcoal- it's just designed to absorb vapors.

I don't know exactly what it is - I've never topped off the tank so that wasn't the problem

The car goes back for the repair at the end of this week.

Car is fixed. I picked it up today. Looks like the part is not covered by the emissions warranty but the covered it anyway.

This is what is said on the invoice:

"OK TO GOODWILL JUST OUT OF WARRANTY"

Below is what it says under the work done. It was the vent solenoid valve that was bad but it came with a canister:

LOWERED REAR CRADLE TO ACCESS EVAP. EMISSION CANISTER. REMOVED AND REPLACED EVAP EMISSIONS CANISTER/VENT SOLENOID VALVE ASSEMBLY. REASSEMBLED CRADLE.

Same thing just happened to mine, unfortunately mine is about 3.5 years old. Any clue how much it would have cost if the dealership didn't cover it? Also any chance they say what actually caused this problem too? Weird both our cars are 3 years old and same problem. Thanks for the help.

It is, buddy of mine errored from day one, took it in three times. Funny thing, the third time they said it wasnt covered because he had a tune....an ongoing problem they had been trying to fix and failing suddenly wasnt covered.....but they were working on it prior to the tune......better luck on yours
