Exclamation Help - My Whipple is suddenly very loud

Hello all, I've had this installed since 2011, it has about 130k miles on it. Just yesterday while driving I noticed a noise coming from the hood. Opened it up today and the Whipple is making this loud noise. I checked the oil, oil level was fine, halfway up the looking glass. Decided to change the oil anyway.

I've attached two videos. One of the engine and the other of me driving in 1st/2nd gear. The windows were all up.

ANY help would be appreciated. Whipple is taking awhile to get back to me.

Nice stop at the stop signs.. lol. That sounds like my Eaton M112 did on my Mustang when the teflon strips on the edges of the rotors wore out and the rotors were barely touching each other when they spun around. Not sure if the Whipple rotors are built this way or not, but that would drive me nuts!!

Sounds like when I had the jackshaft bearings go bad.

Alright well Whipple said to send it in to get diagnosed. They want $1500 just to look at it. Going to cost $100s to ship it. This won't be worth fixing at this point. Time to go back to stock intake.

Did you send it in to get fixed or you determined that yourself? The noise is definitely coming from area by the intake.

So an update. Took the Whipple off. Looked at the rotor. Unfortunately. Looks like the rotors were scraping against the the metal. So I have decided to go back to the stock intake. It's my daily driver so I can't risk it for the biscuit here.

As far as Whipple goes. Their customer service was not good, it's been 4 days now and they still have not answered my email on whether they can sell me the bearings separately or not. Thankfully I did find another company called superchargers online and they were able to hook me up with bearings. No problem. They cost $80 each.

Wow! At least you still had your stock intake to put back on for now, and did find some bearings for it. I hope that is all the problem was. And too, hope you still have your stock tune to put back in the ECU until you get the SC back up and running. Good luck!

Sorry I didn't see your response. I figured it out using an automotive stethoscope and then sent it out for repairs.

I also had a secondary issue where the rotor bearings spun in the housing and made an awful mess of things. That ended up requiring a new blower as the housing was damaged.

Unlike another member here, I actually had a good experience with Jon Bond Performance but don't plan on being in a rush for anything, especially from Whipple themselves.

As mentioned by LarryG, Jon Bond Performance offers Whipple rebuild services at a much lower cost than Whipple, but the wait to get in their shop may be lengthy. There is another shop out there that offers Whipple rebuilds that I found after the fact, but I have no experience with them: Steigemeier Porting Services

Your issue definitely sounds like some bearings have worn out. If you could see scratches/wear marks inside the rotor case, you more than likely would require a new case, which retails for about $4200. Black Friday is approaching....

Good luck,
Scott

Wow, good to know about Whipple. For the better part of $9G's now you'd think they would have better CS.
