Day Dreaming - Brand New GM Performance
My day dreaming options of a brand new American muscle are pretty limited these days.
Do I dream of a new Corvette? They are a really slick piece of machinery, but no rowing gears and perhaps a little too exotic and a little less muscle. Do I dream a Cadillac Blackwing with that big 6.2 with extra PSI being shoved down its throat? At least there I can row gears and go from the track to daily driver quick and easy, but man that price sure gets out of reach in a hurry. Do I dream of a mustang or challenger? That's uncharted territory for me. Do I go foreign? Who's making that throaty V8 at an affordable price? Do I wait for the Camaro to come back, AGAIN? Feeling long a long shot... I love to dream of one day owning a 2015 Z/28, what a sweet ride! Or even the Chevy SS, a Camaro with 4 doors! Ill keep rolling in my 2010 SS, shes been so good to me. Daily driver with little to no fuss. Lets me run her hard at the track and drive home that same day. It sure is fun to own! If it ever did bit the dust, where do i go next? Thanks for reading

Since you introduced the idea of a used car I'd propose you look at a C7. The last Vette with a manual, it looks great and should be financially achievable.
I wish they had offered a Gen 5 Camaro with the option of the LS7 in an SS trim. Don't need all the light weighting and carbon brakes just the engine. The Chevy SS, while offering good performance and even a manual option towards the end of its life, looks like a jelly bean. That is to say it should have looked more aggressive and less sleeper. The CT5 V Blackwing looks more the part but you're going to pay for it and there's just something more aesthetically pleasing about a two door car. I don't know how gm follows up on the CT5 with a BEV replacement that is nearly as fun or engaging to drive. Overall I think we're nearing the end of the road for fun affordable cars from gm if we're not already there. |

I'm in a pretty similar spot, still daily driving my 2011 Camaro SS, and honestly, it's been rock solid. I’ve taken it to a few track days, driven it home without a hiccup, and it still feels like a proper muscle car. I’ve looked at the Blackwing too, love that it comes with a manual, but once you spec it out, it’s deep into dream territory price-wise. The new Corvette doesn’t quite scratch the same itch for me either; it's more supercar than muscle. I keep hoping Chevy brings the Camaro back in some proper form, but who knows. For now, I’m just taking care of what I’ve got and keeping an eye out, because there’s not much out there that really hits all the marks.
