Both of those bikes were unlike anything that had come before and were amazingly fast for the time. Bikes nowadays are much lighter (and probably a little faster as a result)...but I remember being able to powerslide the FJ1100 in 2nd on sharp 25-35mph curves. Yes, I do mean breaking the rear wheel loose and sliding it at speed around curves. I didn't do that often, but it was quite doable.

It's also the fastest I've gone on any land vehicle at 163mph (indicated). I suppose if I ever remove the speed limiter on the Camaro, I could probably go faster than that

Hey Steve, I can tell you that the FJR is a worthy offspring of the mighty FJ1100 and FJ1200. 145 bhp, and 99 ft/lbs with a wet weight of 650 pounds (including bags). Zero to 60 in 3 seconds too. I run Pilot Road 2 tires, and the cornering ability is unbelievable for a bike this heavy.

Here's a pic without the bags:

The windshield is electrically adjustable to boot!

I've rode (started on dirtbikes) off and on since I was 12 years old. Last dirtbike I owned was a modded 2000 Honda CR500R.

Sold the CBR in the background as I'm getting too old for the riding position. Mods were full titanium Akrapovic header to muffler (cat deleted). Yoshimura fender elim kit. Honda quick shifter. Light weight lithium ion battery. Tuned and all restrictions removed.

Fatboy just has Vance and Hines Eliminator 300's on it so far.

Great thread revival! I rode in my youth on motocross bikes, (96 RM125, 01YZ125), then was introduced to road bikes about the time I got my drivers license (86 GR650). I commuted 60 miles round trip for several years on my '87 Intruder 1400, and then '02 Yamaha VMax. I sold the VMax when we were expecting my son, as I was uncomfortable with the risks at that point with a kiddo on the way.

Fast forward 12 years, and I made the decision to get back on two wheels. I have several friends that are into the adventure bike/dual sport scene, so I bought a Ducati Scrambler 800 thinking that would be a good compromise for street and dirt capabilities. Super cool bike, and I had a great time putting a couple thousand miles on it last year.
