Hey guys, apologies if this has been beat to death, but the search function isn't working at the moment. Every time I try to use it, it shut down. I'm recently in the market for a 2SS 1LE. If the 5th digit of the VIN is a J doesn't that automatically make it a 1LE? I've seen several sales on line that do not list the 1LE package, but have a J 5th digit. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not jumping the gun, Tia

As far as I know, you have to check the RPO tag in the trunk to confirm it came with the 1LE package. I'm sure someone else will chime in if there's another way.

This ^^ The "J" designates that the car has the 6.2L L99 engine in it.. Some info for ya.

You guys are correct. The vin doesn't designate 1LE because it's just a package, not any sort of trim level. The RPO sticker and a white steering shaft is the only true way to confirm a 1LE.

If a "J" designates the L99 then it can't be a 1LE, weren't they all LS3?

All Gen5 SS 1LE's are LS3 with the TR6060 transmission. There were no automatic Gen5 SS 1LE's. While the VIN doesn't necessarily call out 1LE, the Service Parts ID tag will call out the RPO 1LE code, along with the suspension code, FE6.

BTW, yeah the search here on the forums sucks. Just go to google, and type your search and add "camaro5.com". You'll find threads from the forums you need.

The engine code is the 8th digit of the VIN, op mentioned the 5th digit. Since the 1le is an option for SS models and not an actual model I doubt it can be decoded from the vin.

In the trunk is the build sheet, driver side under the carpet. Ask for a picture of this to get undeniable proof.

A 2014/15 1le should have the following:
White steering shaft (although ive read that some didn’t have this, most do, mine does) (quickly narrows your search)
3.73 rear gears
Tr6060 tranny
Ls3 motor
Alacantra shift knob and steering wheel (quickly narrows your search)
Matte black hood (but someone could easily remove or add this) (quickly narrows your search)
The cool looking 10 spoke zl1 wheels, rs option (quickly narrows your search)

Popular OPTIONS: dual mode exhaust, recaro seats, 2ss

Good luck in your search. Don’t forget to track it at least once if you get one!
