Yep. The ZL1 is everything I wanted in my car. Faster than hell (well, a LOT faster than my old SS), handles a lot better, has all the extras that I wanted which my SS didn't come with (HUD, MAG, etc). It's just too nice of a car. No way I could get rid of it.

And if I ever do, what the hell would I replace it with??? To get this kind of power from a stock warrantied car??? Psh...then I'd be spending BIG money which, if all goes well and we build the new house, I sure as HELL won't have...

ZL1 is a Keeper for me

I will say that the ZL1 is truly an amazing car but, with that being said, the next generation (if there's one) will most likely be even more amazing. Imagine having all the things we wish we had in our current car, plus possibly an additional 60 hp...kinda makes me giddy . It has been an exercise in restraint keeping this car stock. Though it has adequate power, it really isn't enough for me because of its weight. Yeah, the option to mod is always there but having it all from the factory is just so much more appealing. We'll see. Until then, I'm gonna drive this one and enjoy it like no other car I've owned.

You're rationalizing aren't you? Why would I wait for the "factory" to release a car that will get "modded" beyond what they release? I always thought that people that don't mod their cars are saving money for other priorities besides the car? Or no extra money to mod the car! The "factory" has to stay within it's overall cost of the vehicle. We as consumers and owners don't have that issue. In my case regarding my past vehicles, some were stock, some were not. This one is modified, since this car has lots of support from the aftermarket.

Everyone rationalizes internally about their cars to keep them stock or not. So the question is sort of moot. Some rationalize why they must mod their car, others rationalize why they don't.

I don't like to call them "mods" myself. I prefer the term "personalization". My reasoning is that some of things I do are purely cosmetic, such as adding front mud flaps to prevent stone chips, or adding gill stripes. Stuff that add absolutely NO performance value. ZERO. If I repainted to Kinetic Blue, that would be a great color, but adds no performance value.

I consider a mod something that is more involved and actually provides a different function or improves performance. Wider wheels changes your handling, usually to the better, thus it's a mod. Adding brake cooling ducts improve brake performance, even by a smidgen, thus it's a mod. Adding headers, tune, etc.- mods.

But some people (you know the types) like to personalize for the wrong reasons. They want to project to the masses or car show attendees for an approval or attention, rather than do things THEY like on their car. For example, I put a ZL1 front end on the 2010 SS. I LIKE that front end better. So I don't care what others think about my mod (has brake cooling ducts and fog lights)

That said, I'm still not going to claim the ZL1 as a "keeper" but as I've said before, I buy cars I usually do it because I want to keep them a long time. Although after 2 years and 900 miles driving it home from Austin dealership, I've only got 1950 miles on the car now, you may could say it is turning into a garage queen when I rationalized to myself that I wasn't going to do that. Maybe when I get more time...

This is very true.. I know for a fact the 2017 ZL1 will have a mark up for the first year. And I'm sure the msrp will be at least 65k starting.

I got my ZL1 for 51k, so for the extra 15k I could take my zl1 to hennessey and get the 750hpe package If I wanted to.

You're absolutely right, that option will always exist. I resisted getting an ls1 because I thought I could mod my lt1 to be just as quick. I've heard SS owners wanting to mod their cars to beat ZL1s. The Hellcats are scaring folks, so people want to mod to beat them. Like I said before, the ZL1 is just so good at what it does, it can feel a bit boring. I never thought I'd say that about a car with 11 second potential. I just find that the next generation camaro has addressed a lot of the things I thought were missing in my current car. If there is a next ZL1/Z28, the possibility of more power combined with everything else the new car will bring to the table may be too much to resist. Either way, it would be very difficult to get rid of this car.

My ZL1 is a keeper, but then again when I buy a car, I don't sell it...so technically for me all my cars are keepers. I will say though that it is the epitome of what I want in a car; style, speed, handling, exhaust note, and comfort!

You bring up some good points and here is what I think. HP is almost like a addiction, when I first got my ss camaro I felt like it was really fast, 2 years later I traded it in for a ZL1.

I think everyone is always going to want more hp. Even a 11 second car which is amazing, will eventually get boring. At that point you ether trade it in or mod it right?

I am excited about new car design plus HP and the gravity away from the boring hard boiled egg out of shell design. If the sharp knife edge design continues, I will buy one....and keep my gen5 ZL1 as well.

The Z06 is a amazing car.. Only reason I would never buy any corvette is because 90% of corvette owners are douches.. Seriously everytime I pull up next to a corvette they give me a dirty look? Even If I give them a thumbs up they act like I'm not there.

In my MMA class I pulled up in my ZL1 and everyone loved it, of course the corvette guy had to randomly make a comment saying "my stingray is better"... Typical corvette owner being a dick, even though when he got his stingray I was telling him how sick it was.

It is just a different mindset. Where I live the Camaro owners wave to each other. Corvette owners at least the majority of them have their HOA! To prove the point I had a guy in a new 5.0 Mustang stop and we talked for about 10 mins. Try that with a Corvette owner. Padding their egos. Just tell them it isn't a Ferrari and they become deflated.
