That is a big difference......

...

That has to do with switching octane maps in the SS. They have two from the factory, one for low octane, like 87-89, one for high octane, 91-93. If their cars learn the low octane map, the car pulls timing, by pulling fuses, they are resetting the ECM to relearn which octane map to use. This is dependant upon them running premium fuel as well.

That's it in a nutshell, although it might not be completely correct.

mrray13:

Thank you very much for this information. I did not know that at all.

A friend of mine has a Camaro SS M6 LS3, and I'm not sure if he knows about this "fuse mod".

I'll do some searching on which fuse(s) need to be pulled to exclusively run premium gas. I only run 93 octane Shell or BP......

If anyone has a link to this info. that would totally be appreciated....

The fuses to pull are #5 and #20, pulled in that order, replaced in that order, IIRC. However, on the LS3, it seems a battery disconnect is in order, ala this thread

Hope that clears things up!!

That's the requirement per GM...

It only learns the low octane map if the engine sees knock (KR). If you're running KR free (as you should be with a decent aftermarket tune), resetting the PCM (via Battery, Fuses or Tuner) is unecessary.

In your quote, you stated that the A6 GXP and the A6 are incredibly close. I find this to be relatively inaccurate, or accurate within a certain context.

First of all we are only going to take 3 cars. The very best bone stock M6 Camaro, the very best bone stock A6 GXP, and the very best bone stock A6 Camaro.

Per this site the number 1 M6 Camaro is:

1. 2quick - 12.61 @ 111.60 mph, (LS3, M6)

Per http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=1641 the fastest GXP is an automatic.

GXP4ME 12.815 @ 109.54 (GXP A6)

Per this site the number 1 A6 Camaro is

5. 8ty8ls1 - 12.97 @ 107.61 mph, (L99, A6)

Just a quick congratulations to these three drivers, who all did a great job.

The best M6 Camaro is .2 faster than the best A6 GXP, while the best A6 GXP is .16 faster than the best A6 Camaro. The M6 Camaro has 11 more horses while the GXP has 15 more horses than the A6. Bottom line is the A6 GXP is solidly between the M6 and A6 Camaros, which it should be. The A6 Camaro and A6 GXP are just as close as the M6 Camaro and A6 GXP.

This really isn't a great debate. We save those for which is faster between the A6 and M6 GXP on the G8 forums.

Yeah, Pave1's 12.86 @ 107.70 (L99, A6) is a good run verified with timeslip. It was left off the "official" list because of the red light rule.

Yep, that's me. That was a close race. The lead from the start stayed about the same till the finish. I didn't get to talk to the guy, but I assume he was stock like me.

Owning both cars I can say the G8 feels much quicker than my Camaro. Though I have done a tune and CAI to the GXP. It feels like a monster. It ran mid 12's at 113 mph at Atco but it was 90 degrees and about 70% humidity when I ran it, not the best weather. Last week we had some nice cool weather in the morning and I opened it up. It got sideways and chirped 2nd and 3rd gears! So much fun! The Camaro seems to build up to speed. I will have to try the fuse pull and see if it helps. I bought the car used and I have no idea what the previous owner ran in it.
