rear quarter panel sound deadener
One of the first mods to the car was sound deadener to the trunk of the car.
This weekend I upgraded the front 6.5 seperates and added deadener to the doors. ( the doors seemed to have a lot of thought put into sound deadening and sealing) It nows seems that there is a lot of road noise that comes from the rear quarter panels. I have been looking at the threads on replacing the rear 6x9's. It seems that behind the plastic trim is an open void to the outside panel... It "seems" that sound deadener in inside this cavity would go a long ways into quieting the cabin. I did a simple iphone db test before the truck deadening... according to the free app at highway speed deadening the trunk made a 3db decrease in road noise. Are the rear quarter panels as "bad" as the pictures make them look. I mean it appears as if a liberal dose of butyl based deadener, and maybe even some dampening material on top of that. Every db I can reduce outside noise just makes the audio sound that much better.

I put some in there as well, but you can't reach very far into that void.

Should make a hug improvement behind the wheel liners. A lot of the OEM stuff is going to a fabric wheel liner instead of hard plastic for this very reason. (Front wheel liners on 6th gen are now fabric). I would be interested to hear about your results.

It's the first thing I did to my '10 SS 7 years ago. The Camaro has absolutely NO
unibody insulation. I did from the front seats back 100% with Dynamay & Raammat including the floors, inner 1/4 panels, Wheelhousings, etc. I didn't believe how much road noise there was in my Camaro. Quiet as can be now.
