Camaro v6 vs GTO...for trade.
Hello guys, today I went to a dealer and was offered a deal. A 2005 Pontiac GTO 6.0 V8 with 73,000 miles on it. All leather etc clean car fax. I could get it for the same monthly payment that I'm paying now, but they would take a year off of my payments so I'll have a smaller payoff time and the same payment which is great. The GTO's power is great as well. It felt awesome. It sounded sweet too. But then again, I'm sitting here thinking, my 2011 Camaro with 52,000 miles for a 2005 GTO with 73,000. It just looks kinda like a rice burner to me. But the deal for a v8.... My brother said do it. My best friend and girlfriend are iffy. And the salesman is begging me to lol.
What is you guys stand point on that? I do want to get a Camaro SS down the road but I'm not sure if I should wait . Thanks guys. |

^ This. Id consider it an upgrade. But an SS should also be in your sites. All great cars, cant go wrong either way. However, once you get a taste for v8 power be prepared to upgrade frequently. Just look at my sig.

True. Here's my issue. My credit score isn't very high at the momen . And the GTO was 19,995. They knocked it down to about 14,000 which I won't be finding a Camaro SS for that right now. But when I do want an SS, I don't wanna owe more than the GTO is worth. So I'm worried. The money isn't even a big issue, I just don't wanna feel like an idiot who had a almost new Camaro 5th Gen and went back to a GTO, but then again I feel like that 400 HP is calling me.

The only thing great about the GTO is the LS2...they are fat ladies too @ 3700lbs and kinda bland looking.. wait till the gen6 Camaros are out and 10-13 SS will be going down in price.

GTO may fare better on resale, why not just save your money and buy a 6th gen three or four years from now? It is fun to go into a dealership and pay cash.

Your Camaro IMO is a better car in every way except horsepower. Maybe add some performance mods/dyno tune, or wait a little longer to see what happens with the prices on the 2015s when the Gen6 is released. You have a desirable year and color, so you'll never have a problem getting a decent trade.

Here's a very rough estimate black book value on the GTO. They're selling it to you for the lower end of book value:
http://www.kbb.com/pontiac/gto/2005-...icetype=retail In other words, they're not doing you any favors and had it marked WAY UP at $18k. They're still likely making money on the sale, plus the eventual sale of your Gen5. I realize that's how they operate and survive, just sayin' there's more blood to squeeze from them here. I would walk from the deal. See if they sweeten it. |

A GTO rear end gets real squirrely to when you get on it. Not as well laid out as a Camaro. Fun car to drive but I think you are heading backwards in cars.
