A few questions about Nitrous

So I'm looking to get nitrous for my lfx and have a couple questions. First, i am between the Ny-Trex kit and the Zex kit. The Ny-Trex comes in at around $640.00 on amazon and Zex comes in at $599.99 on Phastek. I like the Ny-Trex a little better because it came with a bottle pressure gauge and the purge kit. Another thing i noticed was a document that the company wrote up explaining how whether your running a 50,75, or a 100 shot, the air/fuel ratios are sitting right where they need to be pass after pass after pass while on the stock tune. I liked that. For only $30-40 dollars more it seems like why not? My nitrous will only be used for when i want to race someone (in mexico of course). I probably won't be going to the strip much to be honest and i will mostly be doing roll's. My question is how will my car hook up from say, from a 20 roll with a 100 shot on the stock Pirelli 275's in the rear in warm weather. My mods are solo high flow cats, knn cold air intake, and a dynomax axle back exhaust. i know ill be fine from any type of roll in second gear. Any input you have about the two kits I'm between would also help, thank you.

I cannot comment on Zex, never owned one. I had the Nytrex and if you think you will doing 100 regularly or more i would consider going with a Nitrous Outlet plate system. Hard to say about the spinning, too many variables.

Keep in mind, you will want if not already purchased, colder plugs, AFR gauge, Tuning software, and extras such as bottle heater, bottle opener, switch panel. If you buy HP Tuners, you can make a Timing Retard box for under $25. This will allow you to run your normal NA tune, but when you arm the nitrous it will retard the timing to a safe mode. Otherwise you have 2 options, one is run the nitrous tune all the time, but may feel down on power cause of the timing being pulled, or option 2 is run 2 separate tunes and switch them back and forth. Thats why i made the retard box so i can pull timing on the fly.

The plate gives a better distribution and the solenoid are beefier. For occasional 100 shot use the Nytrex is fine. For me I only use a 50 shot on the street as traction is not my friend. I also run a NOS mini progressive controller. It sprays 35hp increasing to 50hp over .2 seconds to help with traction.

The nytrex is rated up to 100hp where as the larger Nitrous Outlet solenoids are rated up to 400hp i believe. I would think if he plans to run 100hp constantly it will be less stress and more consistent using the larger solenoid where as you are not constantly running it to its limit.

Does Overkill use HP Tuners? Comes in handy not having to keep swapping tunes using the retard box. The way i have mine setup, when i arm the system, the box fools the computer to think the intake temp is verly low(in my case 10 degrees) which it now uses one of the tables and sees that i reduced the timing for that temp range. Here in Tampa we dont get temps that low, but for some parts of the country a different temp would have to be used cause you dont want to choose something that can actually happen. Otherwise it will reduce your timing regardless of the system being armed.

Personally, i would buy a tune from a tuner that allows you to have the software installed as well, not just log. That way you can do tweaks to it yourself. Thats why i stopped using Trifecta. His software only allowed me to log, but not make changes or see what he was doing to the tune. Hp Tuners isnt cheap, but can do a lot.

I have the Ny-Trex Triple Threat System and Love it. Got a lot of help and advice from IneedAZ after I purchased it. I am running a 75 shot. The system works great! You WILL need to spend more money and get an AFR gauge so you can ensure your AFR is in a safe range, also if you live in cold climate like me - a tank heater, and also a remote pressure gauge, and a remote tank opener is nice so you don't have to stop and open the tank when you want to spray. Also a window switch is a big safety measure. Overall the system works great! The Triple-Threat Valves come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. But as others have said, if you are gonna spray a bigger shot, you may want to check out the Zex kit. The nice thing about the Ny-Trex kit is that you can easily install it in a day. Its fairly simple to install. But be aware that the kit comes with the basics. The accessories listed above are usually 100-250 each accessory and it adds up real quick! Don't forget switching to colder racing spark plugs too, and a tune if you are gonna run 100 shot....

thanks for the help everyone. any answer on the traction question above? need to know how my tires will work on say, a 20 roll in warm weather with a 100 shot. hoping i won't have to buy wider tires.

I can only tell you that i've never sprayed in 1st gear. I always start spraying in 2nd once my RPMs hit about 3000. I have never had traction issues with my 75 shot. I'm not running stock Pirellis either though. I'm running all season Bridgestones. I would imagine if i went to a 100 shot i might start spinning when spraying. With my 75 shot i feel like i'm right on the "edge" of holding traction. Doesn't exactly answer your question though...

Running Brisk RR14S Silver Racing Plugs - as recommended by INeedAZ. So far they are working great. Got them from Jegs. http://www.jegs.com/i/Brisk-USA/084/RR14S/10002/-1
