Thank you bdsdnfam, it is pretty peculiar that no one has made this discovery before, especially since some of the people on this forum are so knowledgeable on so many different aspects of these cars.

Said it for years............learn the shift points and you can drive with skip shift invisible. I've never found it an issue on Corvettes or Camaros.

This. In a year I think mine has come on maybe 3 times.

Sometimes this is not possible to hit those shift points, especially while driving in stop and go traffic, unfortunately.

First day that I did this I only had to hit the button once and I was good for the whole trip, but yesterday I had to hit the clear button like 5 or 6 times so now I don't know what's up lol

Well, after some experimentation with HSA on hills steeper than my driveway, looks like I was full of crap. Doesn't work with HSA. Looks like it might be yaw sensor replacement time.

Here is the trick and it's simple, easy and you just have to make it your habit.

When you are driving hard, you will never see, here or feel GAGS. Shifting at higher RPMs negates the system.

But if you are just driving in traffic you should also not observe CAGS.

CAGS is usually observed when you launch and are driving "normal" and shifting below 2,000 RPMs.

When you are doing this, simply take the shifter down from 1st to the neutral position. Slide the shift lever to the RIGHT as if you are going to 3rd or 4th gear with a slight pause and then pull back left and down into 2nd.

Try it. It works. If you aren't in need of a fast gear change this works like a charm. If you need a quick gear change you are probably launching hard and are above 2,000 RPM.

I've learned to drive every car with CAGS in this manner and I rarely get gated.

If I wanted my transmissions opinion on what gear to shift to, I would have bought an auto. I killed the skip shift... and that makes me happy every day.

This.

Works great - been doing it on my own since I got the car a month ago. FWIW - Set/Clear button does nothing but make the display go away - in my car at least....

Just for the record, when i put in a skip shift eliminator, i got a CEL.

I have a 2013.

I think i'm the only one to ever get a CEL due to it though, i've never heard of anyone else getting one. The SSE worked great, but there must have been a bad wire or something in mine.
Yours was simply open. The skip shift is a solenoid with a coil in it that has about 2k ohms resistance. If u disconnect it, skip shift will be disabled, but the pcm looks for that 2k resistance. If it doesn't see it, it knows something is wrong and turns on the CEL light. If you disconnect it and put a 50 cent 2k resistor across the 2 leads and tape it up, skip shift is disabled and the pcm is happy. That's all a skip shift eleminator does. If you installed one and got a light, it's resistor wasn't making connection.

Is there something I'm missing about the simplicity of installing a $20 plug in between the harness and skip solenoid?

Pushing a button or waiting is not a good solution when you really just want to grab second cause you changed your mind about how hard you want to accelerate now that you're shifting?

Same thing happened to me, with 2 different brands. I also have a '13

I put on long tubes with no cats now so the light is always on anyway so I reinstalled the eliminator.

There's not really any way the skip eliminator can cause a cel unless it's not made properly. No problems with my SLP SSE. Plug and play.
