NO OIL IN ENGINE CHEVY CAMARO 2012 LS

So last week, before going to work out of curiosity I was checking my oil and everything was good. When I finished work, got on the highway and I noticed my car was lacking power, I was pressing on the gas and it was kind of back firing. All of a sudden it went on engine power reduce mode and gave me enough time to pull over before getting smashed by a truck.

So I had to tow my car home cause garage was closed. I checked my oil and there was nothing. The dipstick was dry. So I put some synthetic oil, about half the bottle of a 5.3l. Still nothing on the dipstick.

I towed the car to a gm dealer since I have an extended warranty and also it is still covered by the power train 160000 km. They've checked the car and said I was missing 4 quarts of oil. Which before checking the car I told them there was no oil in it. They requested the invoices of my oil change which I brought to them.

Tomorrow and inspector is coming to see my car to see if they going to approve it or not. I mean this is ridiculous, I've paid 2500$ for my extended warranty, took care of my car. It has 57000km and not miles and now they are telling me they don't knw if they are going to approve.

Did anybody else have this happened to them? It's not even 2 years I have my car, I bought second hand from a gm dealer. If they come back with a negative answer, I swear I'll be putting a lawyer on this and calling the protection office for consumer's.

How many miles/KM since your last oil change and what are the required intervals that are stated on your warranty paperwork?

My last one was done at 55000km and the one prior to this one, at 48000km.

Well I go according to the manual, I don't have it with me.
Plus, I didn't even drive the car that much this year.

7000km is roughly 4300 miles. It seems here in canada the oil change interval for most cars is 7000km. That's factory....extended coverage may be different. Im curious to see what extended coverage dictates.

Not for nothing don't you ever check your oil? I check mine once a week . I go through about 1.5 quarts in 5000 miles depending on how hard I drive the car .

I do check my oil every week also. And if I didn't I know my father did cause he's a lunatic for those things. I just find it weird that the car burned that much oil. Plus I didn't drive the car as much. Also, the morning before going to work I checked it and everything was good. And when I left work and hit the highway, that's when it all started. My car was lacking power, started back firing and some weird noise like some cans hitting the floor.

So I went to the dealer today to have an update because the inspector went there this morning. The director showed me the parts that they removed and they were dry(barely some silver was showing). He said it looked like I was driving for a while with out oil. But I find that weird because all the times that I checked my oil, everything was good. Also there is no oil leaking according to the dealer. I was missing 4-5 quartz of oil :/

Nw I'm just waiting for that independent inspector to come up with the decision.

Are you sure the oil level was fine? I had my local GM dealer do a change once and they left it 3 qts low (NOW I check it myself after they are done and before I leave). If you are confident that it was ok, do this on your first startup of the day: Take a sheet of white paper/cardboard and have a second person hold it behind the tailpipe (about 8" away)on start up, let the oil pressure stabilize and rev it to 3500rpm. If there is a bunch of oil spots, time for a compression/leak down test. Also check your coolant for signs of oil (white frothy slime on the cap).

110% that It was fine. I love my car very much, it's my dream car. I would never be negligent about maintenance, especially the oil change. And l you, I always check how much oil I have after the oil change because I don't trust nobody.

Unfortunately, I cannot do that test at the moment, my car is at the dealer with engine parts all over the place lol.

If the oil was fine the day before and then you suffered oil starvation a day later there should be a really big puddle somewhere, the engine holds 6 quarts of oil. Or every time you drive it there should have been a big bluish cloud following the car from burning the oil and you would have noticed it.

Weird Good luck .

No puddle nothing. But oil starvation might seem what happened. I just read on it and it's pretty accurate.

Thanks a lot

Yeah I know, but my car wasn't smelling nor was there oil on the floor. I didn't notice no smoke. I really don't have a clue man.

They showed me the pieces that they removed, and it was half silver half brown/ like crust. It looked like as if I was driving without oil for a while.

I'm waiting for gm decision.

So guys the dealer called me today and gm approved to replace the engine. They said there was "crust" in the engine and it seems like it was using/burning more oil than usual.

So my baby should be ready for next week. Really happy that it got resolved.

Thank you all for replying.
