F1-R on a stock L99?
I can get a good deal on a F1-R but not to sure how it would be on a stock engine. Tuner shop says they can lower the speed and boost of the blower. Should I do it?
L99, kooks 1 7/8 lt headers, magna flow exhaust, aem cold air intake, dyno tuned. |

Would be a waste of a blower unless you intend on building a motor. Go with a D1SC.

Friend has 12k+ miles on a stock l99 around 700 rwhp. Should be fine

I'd go with a D1SC then if you still want to go procharger. The F1-R is more for race applications with the F1-A being a better street option. You'll have to dog the shit out of the F1 for your build and I have a feeling it wouldnt be very fun.

What part exactly do you think is going to fail? That's really not that much when done right. Lot's of guys making that much or more for a long time on lots of stock parts. Pretty soon the Camaro5 guys will start to catch up with the rest of the LSx world.

Lifters, also their running over 9lbs of boost to reach that number through an L99 so there's plenty more. I'd write more but I'm back to work. Theres a list here of plenty of things that start to fail.

Even when you let me borrow on the car and I beat on it nothing failed. It would be fun it it blew up so we could put a motor in it and make some decent power. 800rwhp is just starting to get fun.

Yep my bad guys, I forgot L99's were the new LS1's. Motor built by jesus himself. I heard people can run 1000rwhp on a stock one. True story.

All we have is our personal experience with a few local cars, all making 600+hp on stock l99s with no issues. Killmodes car has been making ~700rwhp for 12k+ miles without a single issue so he has a factory freak car, or just a decent tune.
Maybe a lot of it has to do with turbos. He makes stupid power on low boost, with very little timing. It maybe easier on the motor compared to s/c. The turbos are so efficient it doesn't take much boost or other mods, and only ~8 degrees of timing to make 700.

Yes an F1R will work on a stock setup. The only reason I would go this route is if you plan to do a full forged motor down the road as you will never get to use the blower for what it is built for. If you don't plan on a forged motor then I would look at a different model that you can spool up.
