Ceramic Coated Intake
I have a Halltech Yellow jacket CAI, I read IAT off of an Aeroforce Interceptor scan gauge.
I dropped my intake tube and heat shielding off at a local powder coater that also does ceramic coating. I've been doing some research and the only people, that I've found, to have ceramic coated their cai intake piping is on an RX8 forum. Seems to be about the same results I have pre coating. I will get the intake and heat shield back in "about a week". IATs (in my application via Aeroforce Interceptor) is about 8/9 degrees above what the car is reading for outside temp. While sitting for 30 seconds at a red light the IAT skyrockets, it will peak as high as 150 degrees depending on how long I sit at that given light for and take a min or two to cool back to 8/9 degrees above outside temp. I know CAI inductions ceramic coats their intakes in house and sells them ceramic coated. Gave me the idea of having my intake ceramic coated. What do you guys think? Do you see a benefit in ceramic coating an intake to prevent heat soaking? Thanks for reading

Can't hurt. I have too much heat for the CAI inc to overcome right now so I'm fixing to heat wrap it like exhaust as well |

I would ceramic coat my headers too but it took 10 hours to install them. I'm really not feeling it, I know that would be the biggest benefit to my car since the headers are non coated.

Did it on jackstands. Was a PITA. Had to disconnect the starter on one side (I improvised) and had to disconnect the steering shaft (improvised again and just made it fit). Changing the plugs took a long time on its own. The design of the header was the real problem.

Holley Blackheart shorties (future TT build, wanted the car louder). Can't even get a sparkplug socket on the plugs in the back half of the motor without backing the header bolts almost completely out.

The guy who sold me this Airaid intake a while ago said it ran high IATs. I did this to my intake air box and wrapped the intake and it now runs at ambient.

When I was in the process of getting some ARH headers installed, I asked my builder about getting them ceramic coated. While I can't remember the exact response, it was something like that it wasn't worth it because the coating burns off within a year or 2.

I will certainly post my findings. The RX8 guy said the intake after being coated only rose 7 degrees at lights and keep around the same IAT while driving. Also the intake would instantly drop tempature, not slpwly go down after a few min of driving. The intake wouldn't heat soak anymore. That's the results I'm shooting for.

Huh...... I don't see any forums here about people's coating coming off on their headers. Good thing to keep in mind for sure. It being my intake, it's an easy thing to keep an eye on.

The Coating on the just over a yr old CAI Intake is done well and still looks brand new. imho If applied right don't think you will have any problems with durability. Best wishes look forward to seeing final product and hearing results
