I am not very green because I changed my oil at 500. WOW!

You don't know the recycling I do so pfft

Run your Cammy at 2400 Km for "Engine Break-In" period then Engine Oil Service Intervals @ every 5000km.

Im on 700km and I really have the urge to full-throttle the beast but I dont wanna risk it lol

The maximum speed Im maintaining: 140km/h @ 4700rpm
(does that sound right anyone or can I push it further as im still on engine break-in period?)

If you put the old used oil thru a white paper coffee filter and you see nothing, there will be nothing in the bottom of the pail.

When they took the lead out of the gas it did become possible to go longer between changes. The same reason the plugs last longer. These are not like our dad's 55 Chev.

Yes.......in the desert with sand and heat. The owners manual you paid for says that.

Well for about ever...........GM has stated in their owners manual that if you drive "regularly in areas with higher temperatures " OR in areas with lots of sand in the air OR if you tow with a truck in areas like that you should use the shorter oil change interval.

Nothing rude about it.....Just the facts Jack!

I beg to differ because the initial shavings that you may get are too heavy to be suspended in the oil. These are not particulate but actual pieces. No matter how clean you get an engine during assembly you are still going to have shavings come off during break in when the parts seat and "marry" together. Also you may have assembly crap in channels and crannies that are overlooked. For the approximate cost of a weeks worth of lattes I can pretty much guarentee my motor will be clean after 500 miles. Cheap insurance.
Cheers
K

do a burnout off the dealer lot. push the car hard for the first 500 miles, change the oil, then enjoy it.

I agree... if are going to drive them hard. Break them in hard.

I have done that on all my 22 new GM cars and the engines and trannies have never given me any problems and I got higher than expected gas mileage. ( except my 97 Northstar that had 1100 " demo" miles on it when I got it. Went thru oil too fast.

This was the only time I have ever bothered to get an oil analysis and it came back zero.( except for trace of silicone)

LOL!

The manual is pretty useless for determining exactly when to change your oil. The default should be the DIC.

Changing at 500 is pretty much throwing $ out the window. If GM was worried about shavings, they would have addressed it in the manual...caveat...if you're changing your tires every 1000 miles then change your oil every 500 miles.

you've never built an engine before have you? I've changed oil after 20 miles, 50 miles, 20 minutes, 60 minutes, 30 minutes, 100 miles, 250 miles from first start up. no engine is exactly the same, modern engine assembly techniques have improved significantly over the years. and most everyone who waits till the DIC says to change their oil will never have a problem. but ya never know. better safe changing it early after beating on it a little than worry down the road that your rings never seated properly and now you are eating oil

You are partially correct. Only built 60's and 70's engines. Engines built today are far more advanced that those of yesteryear. And my initial comments are based on driving the car lightly during break-in, not balls to the wall. Those type of break ins warrant early changes.
