Till then, Gentlemen, start your engines and move along.........
very well said LOL

Darn it. Will they take the key fob from you without a choice? I am getting my oil changed this week but I will not take it to a Chevy dealer if that's what they will do.

Can I go to a regular garage and get the oil changed without it negating my warranty?

You can take it anywhere you want and it will Not effect the warranty. But I'd just tell them its not an issue for you and you want to keep your key. You can ask them when you make your appointment for the oil change. I sat in the car and my knee Cannot even come close to the key area. I hit the bottom of the steering-wheel way before I'm close the the key. Even if I try to hit it with my knee I can't, not possible for me.

I think this recall thing has reached a whole new level of paranoid thinking at GM. I've been driving 5th gens for 5 years and sleeping sound at night.

So... Will keeping the original key up the value of the car in forty years? Good thing I've got four key fobs. I might take my old (non-autostart) set in just to see what the new ones look like.

I think this only applies to a federaly mandated safety recall. This is a recall by GM, not the federal Government so this clause may not apply in this case.

Not sure if was mentioned earlier (too many posts to scan through) but what about the door lock, will it require changing too for the new key to match the ignition and door cylinder ??

Every key has a code. That's what they'll use to make the new one. Nothing in the car will change , for now.

Ya'll are dreamin'. You really think dealers have over a million keys in stock??? You can't just walk in and get a new key. Most dealers can't make the laser cut keys and they have to be ordered. NORMALLY that is about a 3 day process. Now...who knows.

I just took a ride in the car and am still trying to figure out how you can actually shut it off while driving it. My knee is about a foot and a half away. But if you can knock the switchblade key out of position can't you also knock a regular blade key out of position. Doesn't the G8 use the same key? I have not heard about any recalls for that car.
