Yeah the last side that goes together is always the most difficult, I think that,s cause stuff starts to bind a bit as the suspension goes back together. Try a different order and hold your tongone a bit different, it can be a pain some times.

Just FYI.....I finally got everything back together last night. I took all the connections off except for the UCA, and started with the Trailing Arm first and everything seemed to line up just fine. Weird....but it worked!!!! Thanks for all the advice guys, I know I can always count on y'all to help me out!!! Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!!!

Hi everyone. I’m resurrecting this old thread looking for help. I recently installed a used differential with 3.91s and TrueTrac already installed. After 200 miles I pulled the diff due to excessive noise because the gears were not set up correctly. In addition to the gear noise I had heard a constant low volume scrubbing sound while moving. When I dropped diff the first thing I saw was in the pictures below, the metal dust covers on both axles we’re rubbing against the diff housing and grinding away.

The gear lash has been corrected and I’ve reinstalled the diff, paying careful attention to how deep the axles insert into the diff housing. When I pry the axles out from the diff housing there’s about 1/4” of movement before hitting the c-clip retainers that hold them in the diff, but there is spring pressure from the CV housing/splines that pushes them back into the diff housing. When driving the gear noise is gone but I still hear the low volume scrubbing and suspect that the dust covers are still rubbing against the diff housing. What am I missing that could be causing the axle dust covers to scrub against the diff housing?

Just a wild guess but do you have the right axles?

Yes, original axles just as they came out of the car.

New seals were installed, but visually I don’t see any difference from the old seals or how they were installed.

Seals - 92230580

Not sure the year of the donor diff, but every marking matches the OEM 2015 diff exactly including the “SYN” fluid marking which should place it 2013+

There are two different part numbers for the seals. Those 9220580 and 9220620. I believe the 9220620 is the revised seal used across all years. I will have to double check.

Every site I've searched points back to 9220580 being the correct seal.

Are you saying the diff seal plays a role in keeping the axle spaced away from the diff housing?
