I'm assuming you're getting the car tuned when the headers go on. So have the trans tuned as well, or have the tuner download a stock tune file for the trans.... assuming he/she has one.

Get a JRE dipstick so you can check your fluid level. Most likely it's not low but it's a very basic check you will need to do periodically especially if you mod/tune the car. I have a video of the JRE dipstick install I did on my youtube channel listed below. If you install long tube headers you will need a tune.

So far the shop has driven it three times. No engines codes. No transmission codes. They're going to drive it one more time and look at the hard data from the engine/transmission. Told me it will be done by today.
If they don't find anything, I'm considering going to my local Chevy dealer and seeing if there's a more recent trans software for my car.

It sounds to me like it is sensor related. I'm not familiar with the autos but if it shifts fine manually it has to be electronic induced by the means the car uses to determine when to shift

My 2012 with 17k miles on it did the same thing occasionally then it got to happening more and more. Was a cracked drum burned up clutch packs 4/5/6 common issue in the 6l80e. Hope its not but good luck!

I'm assuming this didn't trip a CEL or anything? Also, how'd you end up finding the issue? By pulling the trans? And if you don't mind me asking, how much did this cost you to fix?

Yup no codes, paddles worked for the first few months it randomly worked then stopped. Trans shop couldnt find the issue as was working fine when cold. Had to pull trans. Was right at 5k with upgraded components. Hope for you its not but mine was exactly as you described. Good news with the tranny out they gave me a deal on installing dss drive shaft.
Mine was also boosted at that point right around 650 rwhp which attributes to mine but in my reading and freaking out when it happened, that this is a common issue in the 6l80e across models. |

So just to clarify, yours would randomly downshift itself too?

At first it wouldnt, 4th was a real problem but if i got to 5-6 it would be fine. Towards the end I tried manual mode with the paddles. It would down shift with just normal driving and scare the cr@p out of me when it did it.
