If you go with HP Tuners; I would recommend you seek help and learning thru the hptuners forum. Rather than camaro5. You won't get much help with tuning here as compared to the forum of the actual software. Asking for tuning help here will usually result in a vendor offering to remote tune you.

Excellent advice. What ever you decide to do, HP Tuners or a remote tune, a good wide band sensor will be a must.

And whatever route you go, make sure you get a full tune including the vve tables. Many people end up with a MAF only tune without even realizing it....

What are the VVE tables?

Airflow and Fueling coefficients that the engine uses during engine operations below 3800 RPM. Most Tuners set the MAF enable and disable RPM to something like 400, 300 to use maf only. Forces the vve table to not be used.

They are actually a set of high order polynomial equations that calculate the required coefficients at each load point during engine operation...or something like that lol. There is no longer a simple table that can be manipulated easily which is part of the reason tuners have gotten lazy and take shortcuts. You need to be using HPtuners or EFIlive in order to properly calibrate the VVE. A MAF only tune will work but will never be as smooth and responsive as a full tune at anything other than WOT. A MAF tune can be done very quickly in 1 or 2 datalogs and literally 10 minutes of the tuner's time while the VVE will require 5-6 times as much time and effort...but it's worth it.

It still blends the VVE and MAF below 4000 rpm during fast throttle transitions.

VVE tuning is required after a cam change or major engine change, and primarily affects Idle and off Idle transitions.

I have VVE tables that are applied to my tunes for many different combinations that we have developed on our dyno and have proven to work very well.

MAF only tuning if done right takes a lot longer than 10 minutes and 1 or 2 revisions, Let's just say I am very fussy about my MAF cals.

Ted.

I definitely agree with this comment.

I have posted a couple times on HPTuners forums while trying to learn and I have received great help in explaining not only what to do, but also what I'm doing wrong. There is a much difference type of response there because they help you learn, where here people want you to pay them to tune for you.

I just got a laptop for Christmas and like the OP, would like to purchase HP Tuners. I still plan to go to a tuner for WOT tuning, but I believe I can fine tune my part throttle cruise a little better than it is right now. I plan to spend some time on the HP Tuners site as was suggested here.
