If you're worried about gas then a Camaro is not for you . Get a used volt.

Theres no difference in MPG between the years that makes any meaningful difference at all.

Please title your topic header more appropriately in the future. "Help" doesn't exactly tell us what you are asking.

hey, just saying. 18k (30k with dads money) don't come easy. when your young and starting off 30k could really make a difference in you life and your life down the road. blowing it on a depreciating assets that will be worth nothing in 10 yrs just wouldn't be high on my list. but that's just me.
not saying he shouldn't get the car, but there's other ways than buying cash.

18K IS 20% of $90K, enough for a down payment on a 90K house without having to carry PMI. Payments would be about the same as a car, as well. Just sayin'.

EDIT: Just noticed the OP lives in soCal. Never mind. 90K doesn't buy you sh!t there.

Totally agree here. If you are just getting into college and you gonna live in campus you do not need a car. If you commute and really want a camaro get the base model v6 which is around 20k and forget about insurance and gas. If you want to save on those look into a Kia.

Save some money so do not have to work during your college years and feel like the poor college student. Also make sure you have some starting funds after school because depending on your major you may need to spend quite a bit of time at home searching for a job.

If you want to make a smart choice go get your education in a good field and think about a ZL1 once you get good employment.

Let's do the math... what are you going to spend on a supercharger? $6K? $7K? How many months of gas and insurance before you break even? How much warranty work will you have to pay for now that you've voided your drive train warranty?

and....
scamming the insurance company never ends well. They make a living sniffing out scammers. It's a business, if you don't play by the rules, don't expect payment if something happens.

(I'll also address the post above about insurance agent bending some rules. Keep in mind they aren't doing you a favor if you file a claim and it's rejected because of fraud. Also, you may want to delete your post because if some one puts 2+2 together and figures out who that agent is and she is reported she'll lose her license. My wife has worked in insurance for 22 years. She's been licensed in Texas and California. Folks get mad when she won't "bend some strings" but never ever was a client's claim rejected when bad poo happened. Her return business and word of mouth referrals keeps her doing quite well. Remember, you get what you pay for.)

(and people complain insurance rates are too high... great example of why)

Sorry, I don't intend to be a stick in the mud... just keepin' it real.

You hit the nail on the head with everything there.
Doing a supercharger right won't be cheap. Don't be one of those guys that starts off a project like that with cheap stuff and never actually completes the total package.
Nothing looks worse that a "half assed" job.
So, if you have that kind of $, an SS + insurance increase isn't something to worry about.

My wife also worked in a regional office of a major insurance company for many years.
People are always saying things like "just don't tell them" when you ad mods and they won't raise your rates.
Better hope you never have an accident, because you might find your claim denied.
No matter how much you think you might be pulling one over on your agent, the claims adjusters are not so dumb.
Remember, your agent isn't the one who will be paying your claim.
