My brakes never squeal and do not leave brown crap on the wheels.

However, I removed the stock pads and replaced them with Hawk ceramics. What a difference.

Mine squealed all the time on #8765 but the new car does not squeal. Has the rollers on the front brakes instead of wheel weights FWIW...

If you are riding the brakes comming to a stop (lightly pressing the pedal) this will happen. If you go out to a secluded spot and brake hard a few times the squeeking will go away. If you continue to brake more aggressively, the squeeking will stay away. I know because this is what I have done. These are high performance Brembo brakes, they do not want to be used like the brakes in Granny Clampett's truck.

I had 1400 miles on my OEM pads before I swapped them for low-dust ceramics. In that time, I never heard a single squeal. I did have the roller skate style weights, so maybe they do help.

Has your dealer upgraded you to the weighted pads yet? If not, why don't you ask them to. I think there's a TSB that tells them to do that when a customer complains of noisy brakes.

mlee:
What do you mean the new car does not squeak? Did you trade up. did Chevrolet replace your vehicle? Any details you could give me would be a huge help.

clg:
I started with OEM pads and the wheel weights. Those squeaked -> so they upgraded me to the rollerskates. Well those squeaked -> they replaced the pads with the weighted pads. They still squeak, so now I'm trying to get as much info on the subject as I can so I can have a real discussion with the service manager/dealer.

HDDAN:
I've done the whole stopping hard on your brakes. The squealing comes (on a day where she wants to act up) all the time, no matter how much pressure I put on the brakes. Be it I'm coming to a stop at a red light or slowing down a little bit on the freeway. The squealing is actually louder when I'm on the freeway. I've spoken with the fbodfather about it and he seems to think that something on the braking mechanism isn't disengaging properally. *Fbodfather, didn't mean to quote you just citing you for reference is all.*

Thanks to everyone who has voted/commented. Please keep them coming, the more votes and posts the better.

Like ducq says, mine squeak only when applying the brake at very slow speed. 1 or 2 mph in either direction.

I just had mine checked yesterday and they told me the same thing. It seems like they squeel a lot when braking at low speeds - not a little squeek but that painful long drawn out wish-you-were-deaf squeeling.....

I guess if that's the way it goes I'm just gonna have to turn the radio up louder

Def not a TSB on this because the service guy specifically told me that they had issues like this with the Vettes before and GM first said to replace the pads and then decided not to and told the customers - basically - too bad....

I made sure to stress the issue of the brakes 3 times too because they drive me nuts...

Sorry to say, but their is a TSB. I'm paraphrasing here but the general jist of it is

"If a customer brings in their vehicle with complaints of a squeaking or squealing noise while applying the brake pedal then replace the OEM brake pads with supplied replacement pads. The replacement pads contain a lower metal concentration then the OEM pads and should alleviate the customer's problem."

Give or take a few commas and semicolons, that's the TSB

I had to laugh when I saw this thread- my Camaro is going into the dealer in about 15 minutes for this very issue. Seems it waits until the brakes warm up a little (after a few stops at stop lights), and then it does it only when I'm coming to a stop, but man is it loud!
