Weight still matters, because it still produces rolling drag that adds to the aero drag. Rolling drag actually increases as you go faster, though this increase is fairly slow. Norm |

It becomes a real struggle once in the 180 range, more than a lot of people assume. The amount of HP to push through the 200 barrier is really key especially considering the aero of a stock bodied Camaro, gearing and distance available. But back on track, I believe the 180s is easily achievable considering 500rwhp, street trim gearing and a place to run it to the rev limiter.
Even look at motorcycles. It's easy to reach the mid-180 range, the 186 limiter on my Busa is one thing but even derestricted it takes some good tuning and tinkering to realistically push through the 200 mark. Start adding serious HP to the Busa or equivalent and yes 200 comes really quick then on to the 215-220 range but life gets really tricky at this point.......

Do a search over in the ZL1 forum, and I think you'll find that hitting the magic 200mph takes a lot more HP than you think even without the rev limiter.
A stock ZL1 M6 will usually dyno at around 490 rwhp and a A6 a bit less, say 480? At 500 rwhp, I would guess a top end in the mid 180's. Oh, and by the way IIRC, the A6's come with a 3.23 gear and the M6's with a 3.73. |

I don't think it'd take quite that much . . . more like 700, possibly as few as 675.
What t&t moyer said is true as you approach the top speed of any vehicle (that isn't artificially set by either rev or speed limiters). Unless you've been there or have a sound understanding of the engineering principles involved, you simply can't imagine how long the last 3 or 4 mph will take (and how much road you'd need) as acceleration drops off to zero. Adding that last mph may take half a mile or more, no matter how much power your engine makes. Invisible wall indeed; you'll be wondering why nothing more seems to be happening. Unless Chevrolet does as crappy a job of proofreading as they've been doing with keys in recent years, the ZL1 has 3.73's at least available with some powertrain combination. http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro-zl1-...owertrain.html Norm |

That was my point... going 170+ is not just about horsepower.

A few weeks ago I did 188 on GPS. My 2012 SS has 692 Hp.
I can tell you that the L99 shifts back to fifth gear when going full load. 6th gear is not possible. I think if I would go all the way to rev limiter the speed would be 197Mph. I have a video of this but will not publish this ;-) The HUD stops at 187.5 (In Europe this means 300 Km/h). |

I have a 2010 supercharged ss and I have done an easy 315km/h in. It was nice and solid at those speeds too.
