Miles per gallon question.
I've bought my 2LT/RS (V6 Auto) back in 2012 brand new, so far have no problem and just hit 40K miles today . It has been ~ 2.5 years and yet my mileage per gallon never seem to change. For the past years, I've only got 20.0 miles per gallon. I have made several road trip at about 200-400 miles distance back and forth...in which I've resetted both my MPG & Average speed.
But even after resetting the MPG, it does not seem to change at all. It will vary over the course of the ride; but over time, it will certainly go back down to 20 MPG. I do not know if I should be worried or is this normal? I've been commuting; riding both in city and highway. Avg speed 31.2 MPH I have no mods, it is all stock! Any advice please? Thanks in advance. Ines

Yikes. I average 26.8 in my 2LS, city and highway with an average around 31-32 as well and I have exhaust and intake. Sure you're not heavy on the gas? I usually speed up gradually and cruise along.

Shit, I get 20MPG in my ZL1....... Sometimes, LOL.
I've had a V6 2LT and I was around 26-28 Upgraded to 2SS and was around 18-20 MPG Modded Now with the ZL1, averaging 16MPG and on highway close to 20MPG and sometimes more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm pretty much in the same boat you are. I RARELY ever break 20 mpg. That's because whenever I do drive my 'vert, it's rarely over any great distance and a lot of stop-and-go suburban driving.
I'd suggest, however, to rely much less on your DIC and calculate your mileage manually or use an online calculator. Here are some links to online calculators: http://www.math.com/everyone/calcula...per-gallon.htm (you don't have to enter the "miles per day" unless you want a forecast of your monthly / yearly fuel expense). http://www.calculator.net/gas-mileage-calculator.html http://mpgtune.com/index.php Prerequisite to make the math easier to calculate: Always start with a full tank of gas, don't top it off, let the handle click when it's full and then begin calculating your mileage beginning with your next fill up. Always reset your trip odometer at every fill up so you know exactly how many miles you've driven, reset your DIC Avg. mpg and Avg. mph - do this while you're sitting at the pump. Then, you take the numbers home and plug them into the mpg calculator. I keep an online log which I find helpful in keeping track of mpg's and fuel expenses. http://mpgtune.com/vehicleDetails.php?carId=5547

There is no way you can compare what one car gets for mpg to another. Everyone has different driving habits and a different set of circumstances. In order to compare, you would have to be testing two cars yourself for a period of time. MPGs are all over the board otherwise.

Your mpg is fine...it all depends on if you have any mods, how you drive, where you drive etc. You could be worse off. I AVERAGE 12.5 mpg

There's no good way to answer this. There are too many factors that could be influencing your numbers. If your tires are set at optimal pressure and there are no other mechanical issues, I wouldn't be too alarmed.
My average speed is right around 47mph and I average 27.0mpg. 91% of my commute by distance is open freeway posted at 60-70mph. Theoretically I should be getting better mileage but there are several factors making that unobtainable. Most of that freeway is rolling terrain and has an elevation gain depending on the direction. The corridor is known for strong winds, and in the afternoon I'm usually running the A/C. My tires are checked/filled to optimal pressure and I maintain constant speeds and throttle where possible. Your results are probably fine; Think about what factors might influence less than stellar or advertised MPG and try to factor those in. Your MPG numbers aren't likely to be random or because of bad luck. |
