Not a fan of the Voodoo, the Raptor, or Ford in general ... but the 5.2 would be the 3rd torquiest engine in the F-150 lineup (behind the 2 versions of the 3.5L ecoboast) & I think 4th or 5th of all current 1/2 ton engines. Thats not too bad for a NA screamer of an engine.

And before you say it comes on too late in the rpm band, its torque peaks at 4750 -just slightly after the LT1 in the Camaro & Corvette hit their peak. But keep in mind that since the engine revs to the moon, you can put in much more aggressive gearing that effectively compresses the rpm range of the engine.

No, it will not have to down low power needed for towing and hauling. But if you need a truck for towing & hauling, you probably aren't considering a Raptor in the first place.

BTW it doesn't have "no torque" it has it's powerband in the higher RPMs
Where it's perfectly useful off-road... oh wait.

Key point for torque:
2,500 RPM in the 5.2 Voodoo you have 260 ish lb ft
2,500 RPM in the 3.5 Ecoboost (old version) you have 350 is lb ft.

The Voodoo would've been crap in the Raptor for its intended use. Now if it was supposed to be a street driven performance truck then absolutely use the Voodoo

Torque down low also helps when off-roading and the 3.5 offers much more where you need it for a truck. I agree if you're using the truck for normal truck things you aren't contemplating a Raptor

But isn't the Raptor intended to scream through the desert at 100 mph ... not crawl over rocks at 1 mph?

You're right, I'm guessing it probably can't withstand the abuse of an off road vehicle. No matter how smooth it may be skipping across the dunes, I'll bet a V8 designed to scream on track just isn't a good fit for a desert bashing truck.

Plus the new one has a TT 5.0 V8. Why bother with an exotic knife when you get a sledge hammer

I don't see your point. A high revving v8 would be an awesome baja race truck.

Agree to disagree?

Most truck motors are designed and tuned to produce torque down low. The Voodoo doesn't do that because it's designed to work best between 4,000 RPM to redline on a road course. So for it to work in a truck that is used as a daily driver, you would have to completely alter how the motor makes it power. That's expensive, and the motor is already expensive because it's used in one low volume car. If you alter everything behind the motor it's also expensive.

Most Raptors will see little off road use. I base that opinion on how the majority in my area are spotless, pavement princesses. So the Voodoo wouldn't work for those owners.

It would work best for the small minority that bought the truck for its indented off-road use. But that intended use was tainted because people want the truck for how it looks. Lifted trucks look badass, and this one comes with a warranty and the parts installed for you.

I agree with you on using it for a dedicated race truck that will see high RPM use most of the time because race truck. I don't agree with you on putting the Voodoo in the street truck as it wouldn't work for 90% of the people who buy one

I'm surprised it's not the big wing Corvette. I figured they would want something exciting for Detroit.
