I bought a '16 SS to be my daily driver. Got the 8A with remote start on the fob. I love my ZL1 but this thing has a lot of creature comforts, I even have a heated steering wheel. The infotainment interface with my phone is so much better. Car is a wifi hot spot and charges your phone when you set it on the back of the armrest. It is more cramped inside the cabin, but with the magride on the SS it feels a 1000 pounds lighter than the ZL1 when you start pushing the cornering and transitions.

If you want to match the Hellcat and the next GT500 you are going to have to go to the aftermarket. The advantage is you are starting with a lighter more nimble chassis. And don't forget...This is a Chevy. The aftermarket is already kicking out all kinds of stuff because people mod GM V8's more than any other brand. My car is at AGP turbo getting twins installed now so it won't be long before it should make a lot of power. Once the turbos are in and my engine output exceeds the Dodge and Ford competition, with this chassis, this new Camaro is going to be amazing. And even with the cost of turbos, I expect this new SS is going to cost about the same as what my stock ZL1 was when new. It will be much less than I paid for the C7 stingray and I expect it will be faster at any racing venue I show up at. As things come together I'll keep you guys posted.

The Gen5 ZL1 can be modded to over 700 crank HP easy.....and that's just what I did with mine.

.
Exactly. You can add 2k in mods to get to same hp number as the new ctsv. The new zl1 will have similar numbers. But it will be lighter. Either way, I got mine with the 20% off. Paid 43,500 out the door. I won't ever get that again. The new ones will go closer to 70. And they won't do the 20% off for a while on those. Just getting to be too expensive. I will keep mind and just mod it and save myself 30k to upgrade.

Went to the Chevy dealer today, they called me asked if I wanted to trade mine in on a 16 SS with all the toys. Spring is coming and they want good low mileage cars for the lot. After dinner me and the wife drove down to look. There in front of the place he had a red SS 49,500 had almost everything. He said get in take the wife for a drive and let me know. I am going to say the Interior is better, the seats are better, Its a very nice car but it is no ZL1. I put it thru its paces. Took it back to the dealer. Its a great car but it is not the brute the ZL1 is, I jumped on it, and I missed that supercharger whine it felt dead without it. They offered me $39,900 in trade. So no 16 for me it felt like going backward. After that I test drove a 16 Z06, now that's a different story, Also $96,000.

I haven't test drove a 16 yet but I feel like I would come away with the same opinion as you. It seems to be a heck of a car but the ZL1 is just an amazing "all in one" type car. That only comes around every so often. I just can't imagine trading it for any other car at all.

I just can't imagine what specs the new Z would have other than perhaps the LT4 at around 640hp, and perhaps a new generation of MRC.

I see no need at all to come out with anything with more HP just to have a bigger number than the Hellcat.

I've driven a 2016, and asked people that had a ZL1 what they thought of the new SS, and they confirm that even tho some of the performance specs on the SS are darn close to a 5th gen ZL1, it just doesn't have the same brute force feel the ZL1 has.

I'm STILL tickled to death with my 2013 ZL1 convertible. The new one would have to have some downright new amazing features to make me spend that kind of money again when I still love what I have, especially when mine is all paid for.

Basically, I think we're all a bit spoiled. If not for the hellcat, I think we would all be perfectly satisfied with the straight line performance of the ZL1. It wasn't too long ago that having a car capable of 11 second 1/4 mile times was race car territory. Though I've gotten used to the power of my zl1, there are still times I long for more.

The hc may just be overkill. I can only imagine how many of them have wrecked in the hands of owners not used to that kind of power. It really does take a skill and a bit of fear to tame such a beast.

I haven't had the opportunity to drive the hc yet, but I wouldn't mind getting in the saddle. Either way, I hope the general gives us a big dose of what we all want...big hp. In the end, no one loses.

Trading is not on the table for me. However if Chevy went nuts and came out with a 50th anniversary, Mid-Night Edition ZL1 with 700 HP a trade would be on the table for me.

Well said Redline. No doubt the new Z car will be a beast, but I agree the msrp will be around $65K which I also feel is too much.

For me not reason to change

Last week, i saw the first time in person the 6th gen ss. I was really surprised, how the car looks. For sure the car have a few nice upgrades, but for me personally the car looks to small. The interior is nice, but wtf gm think about the room behind the driver. There never will somebody have enough room to sit inside. Crazy.

I love my 5th gen zl1 how it looks and how it works. Its a real musclecar. 6th gen looks like a japanese car.

Then i prefer an cts or the corvette.

$65k is a distinct possibility. Add another $7k premium for a convertible and you're at $72k.
