I never even considered tipping at a dealer. Why?? They are getting paid for what they do. If they aren't getting paid enough money it's their choice to leave to a job that pays more. No one has ever offered to pay me a tip, nor should they.

tip the dealer...hmmm let me think about that...I dunno, do you tip the IRS after they've bent you over but made you feel like they were doing you a favor?

No need for a tip. They make a good comission on the sale, why do you think they will give you $100-200 for referrals? They need to take care of you and if they do they know you will come back to see them for your next purchase.

I always get my sales person a gift after I get my car and the deal is done. I usually bring it to them within a week after the sale. I've always had awesome sales people. I usually bring a large tray of cookies for them and the people who helped make the deal happen.

+1. Wouldn't give money, doesn't seem appropriate. A gift sounds nice - Edible Arrangements, maybe?

If you feel like giving your salesperson a tip, most dealerships won't allow cash. Give him a gift certificate for a decent lunch place or better yet a pen! (Pens and cigarette lighters are GOLDEN in car dealerships!) |

Its amazing to me how little most of the people on this site know about car sales or dealerships but yet continue to spout b.s. on a daily basis about how little the dealer or sales people know...

I'm not totally useless..

Well, I was neurotic during my 4.5 month wait for my car. So, I brought my sales guy a case of his fav beer! Same for the owner of the dealership! It helps to build/extend the relationship IMO. Hell, now they let me work on my own car in their shop!

Tip the dealer?
The only dealer you should consider tipping is the one that's dealing the cards at the blackjack table in the casino...and, only if you're cashing out after a winning spree.....!
