Just for comparison, check how well Doc's paint matches up. It really is the automotive equivalent of the Angels.

I believe there's another event there in August. The Comm's (Rob & Trish) and most of the SoCalC5 gang were running the autocross; I was the only one on the big track. We may be trying to get our own event going though, I think we need at least 25 to sign up.
I would LOVE to get a crack at the roval!!! Last time I ran was without the high speed fun.

When you find out the dates in August please post them up. If I'm off work I'll put it on the fun schedule.

Well that will be in a few hours. I have the splitter on; just have the front of the car off while I'm putting on a tow-hook. Stupid battery on my drill ran down while I was trying to drill the holes in the front bar. I've got the battery on the charger so maybe in about 3 hours I'll have a pic or two with the front of the car back on and the splitter.

Next week I'll take the ZL1 sideskirts someplace to get them painted and maybe by next Friday those will be on too with any luck.

Well it took longer than anticipated. Trying to get the tow-hook to line up so it stuck out the lower grill correctly was a time-consuming pain. For those who want to do this in the future, drill 13 and 5/8 inches from the right edge of the steel crash bumper and leave about 1/4" gap from the bottom of the crash bumper to the tow-hook. And I recommend removing the crash bumper to drill the holes so the front and back holes line up properly.

At any rate, here are a couple of quick pics I took this morning (ignore the dirt and bugs, the car needs washing) and you can see the red tow-hook sticking out from the lower grill. You can also see the SLP front splitter which was easy to install and fit exactly as advertised. It installs with 10 bolts (no double-stick tape here) so there's no chance it's going to come off at high speed if you run on the track. This should give me a little more downforce in the front when going around the high-speed bank at the speedway.

Next is getting the ZL1 sideskirts out of the living room and to the paint shop.

Curious Doc,

Do you remove the passenger seat when running the track (2 bolts)? ... maybe even the rear seat too?
Still have the windshield washer bottle?
Carpet?
Console?
OnStar?
XM?

There is so many places to lose weight...

And really, your build is so epic that I don't want it to stop ...... I bet 3600 lb is achievable.

would not recommend removing the seat, that will set an airbag code that will need to be cleared by a dealer.

Does anyone make a seat wiring terminator with the correct resistors (dummy seat)? I am guessing you would need this with racing seats?

Even if not, 50lb is 50lb. You might be able to live with the airbag light for a track pass. ... does the driver bag work if the light is on? (probably not).

That was true on the old GTO's, but not with the Camaro's. It sets a temporary fault that displays on the DIC that then disappears when the seat is reinstalled.

LOL well thank you for the support. I don't remove the seats or any of that other stuff when on the track. I'm not trying to do a full-race build but I'll continue to study what I can do about getting some more weight out without gutting the car. It would be nice to get it down to 3,600 lbs with a full tank.

This is something I was concerned about; I'll talk to Sparco and see if they have a solution for this. It seems to me they would since they've been selling racing seats for years.

If I just replace the driver's seat it looks like I might be able to save about 30 lbs, even with adding a tank plate and 4-point harness. Something I'm researching.

That's good to know Padre. There MUST be a bypass or work-around of some kind to allow a racing seat and still keep everything functioning.

I picked up the Helms Service Manual. Just got to dig through it to find which circuits to ground or resistor. Should be pretty simple - I'll get it done before my next race in June.

Doing great! 10-second Camaro and just picked up a 2004 Purple GTO (105k+ miles) for cheap as a daily driver! Lovin' it!
