Pirelli P Zero better in the cold?
Now that I've discovered Texas roads have even less friction than Georgia roads, I'm concerned about colder day traction again. (Perhaps because it was about 38 degrees F or so on the ride to work this morning.) In my experience, the Goodyear Eagle F1s are pretty terrible below around 60 degrees (F), even on good asphalt.
Does anyone know if the Pirelli P Zero Max Performance is any better than the stock Goodyears for colder temps? If not, I guess I'll get some winter tires, which seems silly in TX... Last edited by Nightspore68; 11-13-2013 at 05:17 PM. Reason: wrong brand mentioned |

Oops, I meant Pirelli P Zero. I wonder if I can change the thread title...

Any extreme performance summer tire is pretty bad in cool weather... I've had both you are asking about... If you are stuck driving even in bad/cold weather, a better all season tire may be just the right fix... If you want to try a set of Pirellis, I have mine still on the factory wheels... About 23,000 miles on the fronts and 3000 miles on the rears...

Pirellis are not very good below 40*F.

Texas roads are slippery year round. All season tires would better suit you in Texas. Just sayin. I have experienced this in an 06 Z06.

Well it was 24 degrees this morning and my new Continental Extreme DWS tires were just what the doctor ordered. I hear they are not too bad in the snow but i don't have any plans on driving the Camaro in those conditions.

Wouldn't all season tires be better in the winter but then worse in the summer?
Can we even get all season tires? Tire Rack only shows the OEM Goodyears and the Pirelli P Zeros for a ZL-1, and they're both summer only. If I unselect all the Summer filters, I'm left with nothing. |

Tire Rack recommended I get Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3, which are $1248 plus shipping. They're all the same size, 285/35/20, but they say these will fit on all four factory wheels. Seems like they ought to be too narrow for the rear wheels, but I guess they know what they're doing.

You will be fine with summer tires in DFW. I would go with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports

At about 70 degrees my l99 2ss will light them very quickly. It seems to me these tires aren't very sticky at 90 degrees either from a 20 roll it still easy to burn them off. But of course, I like white smoke.
