Tune Worthwhile?
What are the advantages to a custom tune on a L99? Is it worth the money?
Thanks in advance.

For me it was well worth it. Shift faster, much quicker throttle response. More Torque. Lastly for me it smoothed the idle with the intake and Borla exhaust. I have used tune on every car it wakes it up.

It’s worth the money just to have the DOD tuned out

On my 131le I had a Diablo Intune tuner with a 93oct tune, made a huge difference in throttle response. Then I bought a JRE 93oct email tune, another huge difference. More throttle response, revved quicker higher, fans come on quicker, gets rid of torque management. Should have came from the factory that way. Most of the A6 guys like their tunes just for the better shifting. Quicker, firmer shifts, and better shift points. There is 2-3 tuners on here that get great reviews, contact one of them.

I would tune any auto mods or not unless you plan on doing a mod soon that would throw it off or have warranty concerns. Most tuners re-tune for a small fee anyway.
Better shifting, optimized shift points, torque management reduction or removal. I think the cylinder deactivation would be a good reason alone. On my truck it doesnt bother me and not many issues Gen V, but in any car I own Id eliminate it in a tune or mechanically. Now in a manual, I think you can make the case that tuning isnt worth it in a stock vehicle.

My car is a manual. if i could go back, i probably would not have tuned mine until after the LT headers. Maybe for autos its a different story.

If you haven't put but plan to put headers on in the future you might wait until you put headers on. However, if you race it definitely. Overall just on a stock car the tune would do a massive amount for an automatic car. Speaking from experience, factory tuned L99 cars are sluggish and a little lazy. If you don't know the difference they're great, when you get a tune you'll wonder how you ever drove the car without a tune. Shift firmness, shift points, AFM on/off, torque management reduced, top speed eliminated, the list goes on. IMO, it's better to get a few mods like headers, intake, and don't forget to add a ported throttle body too (a must have for an automatic car) then get tuned.

As others have said I would do what ever mods you plan on before the tune. No sense in doing it twice. Obviously, there is a benefit to a basically stock car, but from what I've seen very few owners can leave their cars alone.

Once you have dynosteve do it, if you add mods, Steve will update your tune for free. No need to wait to add stuff first.

So, can I use my laptop to upload a tune to my car or do I have to have an HP tuner or one of the others?
