FooT, any ideas on what caused the belt to snap?

I may have experienced slippage this week for the first time. I was spooled up to about 6.8k in 3rd, then when I shifted to 4th, the power band went flat, but the rpms stayed around 6k.

Bump off Rev limiter? That's when they can break.

I think the belt was already weak, but since I broke the line lock switch I tried to start the wheels spinning then hit the break with my left foot. Problem is working with two 13EEEEEE feet there isn't a lot of room down there to get it right. When I lifted the clutch I didn't give enough gas to keep the wheels spinning and those big 15's bit and the car just died in the burnout box. That might have done it but I don't know. I just know that after the tire shake quit the car wasn't pulling like it was before so I know the belt was already somewhat compromised.

I sent Rdunn a private message about this and fortunately for me he also has an F-1X cog drive set up. He said that he never had any belt issues until he went up to 30 psi. He suggests that we take a close look at the supercharger at WOT to see if it is flexing/moving. If so, then that could throw the belt and he said that the supercharger would need some additional bracing to keep it steady.

Items I am looking at for the next shop date:

1. New belt
2. Custom belt guard/cage
3. Check for supercharger movement under WOT
4. Discuss 2 step launch controller
5. Engine check over to make sure nothing else was damaged
6. Giving serious consideration to pulling the suction restrictor and just rolling the dice, cause when I go for the record I plan to be all in.

2 steps etc can be very hard on things like that...more so with the cogs.

IMO, move to a 12 rib with a very good strong spring tensioner. Or if you need to persist with cogs...avoid 2 steps and hitting rev limiters in general

Or maybe try adding high sidewall idlers to keep better control of belt movement/walk, without the need for tension on the belt as it seems the cogs dont like too much tension at all.
Or maybe a spring tensioner on the slack side of the belt might help ?

I don't plan to give up on the cog drive just yet. I really like the whine it gives and the shredded belt may have been a fluke. After we take a few more precautions and then it happens again . . . I will reconsider switching it out.

Was beginning to hear some whine and other disturbing noises from the stock transmission which has served me well over the years. It has been my experience that once a part gets weak then it is only a matter of time before it goes so I bit the bullet and will be replacing the stock tranny with RPM's Level VII TR6060 which includes cryogenic treating. I had to swallow hard on this one cause it is expensive, but my shop assures me it is worth the $$$.

Now if ATI would just make that Super Pulley/Sprag in something that wont rust and look like crap then I would be happy. Did you guys see the pics? Lovely to pop the hood to show someone your engine and that rusty sprag is there to greet you!

Sorry to hear about the tranny, but at least now you shouldn't have to worry about that, very nice pics looks killer
