Cleaning lug nut area
How is everyone getting the lug nut area so clean? I've used Q-Tips and have squeezed micro fiber towels in there to wipe the area, but still can't get them perfectly clean. What's the trick?

Lugnut brush. You'll find one on pretty much any detailing site. Looks like a 1'' round paint brush basically

Ya, I agree. I got an Adam's lug brush and it made a huge difference!

Sounds like that's what I need. I've never had wheels before with the recessed lug nuts so I've never seen or looked for a lug nut brush. I'll definitely have to grab one from somewhere.

I find it much easier the clean the entire wheel if I remove it from the car.

Even with a brush it can be tough to get all the dirt/brake dust out. Sonax will break it down and make it much easier to remove. Sonax is a little pricey though. |

In response to the Adam's posts...if for whatever reason you don't want to be raped, you could always purchase this

I just did a little research on products for cleaning clear coated wheels, I found this product called Brown Royal, it's supposed to work as well as Sonax but is much cheaper. I cannot find it for sale anywhere though.

If you're needing something as aggressive as sonax, it means you're neglecting your wheels. If you keep on top of it you'll never need more than regular car wash.

Some times though we get 3-4 solid days of rain here where I cannot wash the wheels, I also once had to drive 30 miles in the rain to my rheumatologists office one way, and in both circumstances the wheels get really trashed. I'm not a fan of rubbing them with anything when they are coated with brake dust, road grime, etc. as I do not want to scratch the clear. The Sonax will remove everything without agitation, but it is expensive. And I have to re-apply wax because it strips it all, I'm sure the Brown Royal will be the same. Just looking for a cheaper alternative for a spray and rinse product that actually works on heavily soiled wheels, and in the lugnut area, for when these situations arise. |
